In this issue, the author asserts that critic is not as important as artist to provide something of lasting value to society.I partly agree with the statement and in my point of view,both artist and critic are significant to society. Artist create the art while critic can help us understand and appreciate art.

In the first place,critic can help us understand and interpret art.A critic who is familiar with a special artist and his or her works might have certain insights about these works that layperson donot comprehend it.A critic's evaluation of an art work likes a filter,which helps us determine what art is worth our time and attention. For example, a new novel by a best-selling author might nevertheless be an uninspired effort, and if the critic can call our attention to this fact we gain time to seek out more worthwhile literature to read.

In the second place, a critic can provide feedback for artists; and constructive criticism, if taken to heart, can result in better work.Because of when any artist is creating work,he or she must devote himself or herself absorbedly to the work,sometimes eventhough there are some mistakes in the work,they may ignore it and lead the work faulty.But critic can find out the errors or blemishes and then they provide feedback to artist who can improve it timely when they receive the feedback and make the work perfect.For example,when some composers have finish his productions they give these works to some critics for appreciating first,then they amend these productions after receicing feedbacks,and the works,finally,are popular.So critic's evaluation is important to artist's art.

Admittedly,it is well known that the artist's art has long-term effection on society.Although some works have different controversies originally and are not paid more attention,they have received the honour and award ultimately since more and more critics can understand and evaluate these art rightly.For example,Monet's works are not understood by most critics and people in the beginning because of his works belong to impressionism and can not be comprehended easily.Now,his works are all approbated by most people.

In sum,the artist, through works of art, provides an invaluable and unique mirror of the culture of the time,and the critics help artists consummate their works and help us understand and appreciate these works.Both the artist and critic provide something of lasting value to society and they are equal important to us.
