The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives.

The speaker asserts that the study of history is only valuable insofar as it is relevant to our daily lives. A close scrutiny reveals that this assertion ignores the value beyond the day-to-day activities of human beings. Actually, learning history helps humans planning for the future life by avoiding repeating mistakes and inspiring the children.

First, I admit study of history has great value if it is relevant to our daily life, especially when it acts as art and entertainments. Well told history is beautiful, and most historians who appeal to the readers are skillful as well as accuracy. In fact, biography and military history are fascinating in part because of the stories they contain, the legends of the heroes really exist in our lives, and the appealing society we never have chance to experience. Readers can gain historic knowledge as well as enjoy the interesting stories, the fantastic experiences, and the life of heroes as a kind of recreation.

In addition, a historical analysis is usually very helpful in many aspects such as in the preparation of the election, the establishment of laws, and the prevention of diseases. Billions of money are puts into the historical analysis of voters in countless elections, ranging from the election of the students' leader to the presidential elections. These analysis can reveal what kind of voters are the emphasis of the candidate, thus give the direction to candidates. Many kinds of historic analysis can be seen everywhere in our daily life, which have great value of decision.

However, we cannot ignore the value beyond the daily life. It is a very important function of leaning history that we can avoid repeating mistakes by the historic admonishment, especially when we are facing great-effected new inventions. For instance, the experience of DDT is a lesson we cannot forget. DDT was first heavily used in World War II to preinvasion spraying, after that, it was spread throughout the world to combat yellow fever and other insect-vectored diseases and get great success. However, with the publication of <silent spring>, people find that by entering the food chain and concentrating in higher animals, DDT caused reproductive dysfunction. At last, DDT was banned in American in 1973, and then most countries also banned it or strictly control it. Therefore, at present when we meet new invention such as clone technique, facing the huge potential use of medicine, we are much cautious to it and many countries banned the experiment of cloning human beings.

Moreover, studying history also inspire numerous children to be interested in special fields or even choose one fields as there life-long career. It is entirely possible that a child begin his interesting in biology because hear the story of Darwin's voyage around the world, or a little girl decided to become a astronaut when he saw the Armstrong's first step on the moon, or maybe a young man devoted himself to the civil-rights movement just because he was inspired by the speech of Martin Luther King. These children are the future of our society, biologists, astronauts, and society leaders are born in them. Thus such decisions inspired by historic figures greatly affect our society.

In conclusion, the value of learning history is not only in the extent of our daily life, but also in affecting the future of out society by reducing the mistakes we have paid for much, and by inspiring the decision of our young generations.

还是很欣赏你的用词和句法，语言很流畅，偶尔有些小的语法错误。但是没有大碍。我觉得这篇文章的难点在于界定什么是"relevant to daily lives"。我个人的理解是，对于个人的启发和学习有帮助的，都是在这个范畴里面的。而社会吸取的教训，或者是历史对文化和艺术的作用，这些层面的东西，才是beyong daily life的。个人意见。希望有帮助
