------题目------
The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.
------正文------
What is a reliable way for people to understand a society's ideas and values? Some think that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes that can help to judge this. As far as I concerned, I am partially agree with this recommendation because this method sometimes not accurate and there are many ways to judge a society's ideas and value.
Admittedly, the way people look, dress and act can reveal a society's ideas and values. In the situation when we have to communicate with a stranger, we do not know anything about him or her, the most direct way for us to judge the interests and attitudes about the stranger is to observe what he or she dresses and his or her behaviors. As we know, the way people look, dress, and act shows their levels of education, their occupations, their preferences and so forth. Hence, it is not different for us to distinguish an office worker from a police just by observing what they are dressing. By doing so, we can form an initial impression of the stranger and obtain some individual information about him or her. Further, the factors that affect the way people dress and act are a society's ideas and values. Although this influence sometimes cannot be perceived by people, it does have influence by affecting the environment around people. Nowadays, it is not surprising for us to find that there are many young people wear the same clothes or try to mimic some behaviors which they think is popular or "cool". So, such phenomena reveal the society's values and preferences.
One the other hand, the way mentioned above is not reliable to judge a society's ideas and values just because it is too superficial to trust. In the circumstances that we meet a person for the first time or go to a place where we have never been before, this method seems sound and reliable, however, when we want to have a deeper understanding of the person or the place, we have to collect information through many different ways such as visiting the person who familiar with the stranger or looking up the history of the place. That is to say, we need to observe many other aspects of a society to make a more accurate and reliable judgment on the society's ideas and values.
To understand a society's ideas and values, there are many more important factors that need to be considered. These factors including the society's culture, the way people live, the history of the society, the standards people used to judge things and the main sentiments of the society. In detail, we can judge the society's value by observing its literature, music and paintings; judge the society's ideas by observing its medium, scientific researches and the books or magazines. Therefore, in order to have a whole and profound awareness of a society, we need to consider many aspects of it.
In sum, even the way by observing the look, dress and act of people to judging a society's ideas and values is appealing to some extent, it has some inevitable flaws that undermine its reliability, to avoid such flaw and gain a more accurate understanding of the society, we have to take more factors into consideration.
