"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

正文：
It has been said that the study of history has value only given that it is relevant to our daily lives. I would certainly admit that we human beings do obtain much benefit by studying history relevant to our daily lives; however, it is absolutely not the case. According to my own lights, the study of history should be considered beneficial to human beings as long as it is still significant in reality or can provide something conductive to modern times  

To begin with, the study of history provides us with lessons and experiences of people in the past which effectively avoids making mistakes similar as before and helps us away from the wrong way that precursors had been in. Take the environment problems for example, people in the past who did not care about the environment at length experienced disasters which could be mostly imputed to human themselves, on realizing which people nowadays have adopted various restrictions on pollution and other behaviors that do harm to the environment. In that case, human effectively escape from more punishment of nature and environment, which in turn makes human live lives in harmony with the nature and thus partly prompts the prosperity of human society.

In addition, the study of history lays foundation for solving problems which is hard to deal with only by the contemporary analysis. Most phenomenon and events appeared in the world is quite a small part of the whole issue. For that matter, people need to seek the help of history which is almost the only media able to provide precise and detailed materials. For instance, low voter turnout, which is widely concerned about in the US recently can be better understood by historical analysis. By doing so, people can determine when the trend began and then try to find out the reason for that which is the key to solve this problem.

Last but not least, the study of history superficially irrelevant to our daily lives influences even greatly on human beings and human societies. As we know, the study of long dead things such as fossil of plants and animals, which is far from our daily lives, indeed sheds light on evolution and on origin and development of humans. In fact, at this point the study is presumed to be also relevant to our daily lives insofar as we can determined the way we should take and the law we should comply with in order to live a better life in the future.

To sum up, the value of studying history is presumed to be an extremely complicated and controversial issue, which can not agree on indiscriminatingly. However, at a point when the study of history is conductive to the human beings and human societies, the study, no matter whether or not relevant to our daily lives, deserves the acceptability of people in modern times.
