Issue43
题目
Issue43 "To be an effective leader, a public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards."
*********************************************************************************
*********************************************************************************
Position:
实际上人们只是往往只是看重领导者的一方面public selves but not private selves(Martin Luther King& Adolph Hitler)nobody is utterly good or bad。
(Bill Clinton)

正文:
Is it necessary for a public official to always maintain the highest ethical and moral standards for the purpose of being an effective leader? The speaker claims so. I am inclined to concur with the speaker in that the basic ethical and moral standards do play a significant role in the leadership. Nevertheless, I argue that a public official should not be required to strictly confine oneself within the sphere of morality insofar as a leader is also a common person who would consciously or unconsciously make some mistakes and insofar as there are also other important peculiarities for an effective leader. To further shore up my viewpoint, I would present my analysis in details as below.

To begin with, the highest ethical and moral standards do go a long way toward performing as an excellent leader. As for the leader oneself, maintaining highest ethical and moral standards would ensure one's leadership. After all, people would never want to see that their leader usually associates with illegitimate affairs, say, bribery, fraud, and which would at length pose threat to the leadership. Philippine President Gloria Arroyo, for instance, committed an electoral fraud in 2005, which was widely blamed by the general public. As the poll displays, more than half of the people in Philippines think that Arroyo is incumbent to resign. Whereas, when it comes to society as a whole, ethic and morality of a leader are also quite important because the leader does not only take the responsibility to regulate a society or a nation, but they are also widely considered to be a model or a guide of the public. From these we can see that to be an effective leader, especially a political leader, possessing an appropriate ethical and moral standard is instrumental for both their leadership and society.

However, it would be too critical to require every leader to have the highest ethic and morality. After all, nobody was born to be perfect. People should allow their leaders to have some faults as long as those faults are not relevant to the public affairs. To illustrate this point, we can take a look at Martin Luther King Jr.,who were famous for his struggling for the rights of the blacks in the United States, had been proved to live a tawdry life in his private time. However, until today no one would deny that owing to his endeavor, the black people in American gain the precious equality and freedom. In fact, when we evaluate a person, we all tend to judge him or her from only one or several leading aspects. The same is true with the leader. Hence, the leader, also as a common person, should be tolerated to do something wrong in his privacy.

Furthermore, to be an effective leader, many other characteristics are also needed such as courage, perseverance, intelligence, ideal, etc., which may serve to offset the deficiency of their ethic and morality. For example, Bill Clinton, though involved in the sexual affairs with Monica Lewinsky who was a White house intern, once again prompts the debates between leadership and morality. However, should people judge him as a devil merely because of that scandal? Absolutely not. In fact, Bill Clinton is considered to be an excellent president till now in that it is he who rescued the country from the depression of economy and also who lead their people as well as their nation to the prosperity of today. People would never forget his shrewdness, courage and also the outstanding leadership.

To sum up, as discussed above, we can confidently draw the conclusion that in most cases, public officials should keep the highest ethical and moral standards in order to ensure one’s leadership and also to serve as a good example in public. However, since a leader is also a man, flaws of who should, to certain extent, be forgiven.
Forge ahead, never retreat!

I am inclined to concur with the speaker in that the basic ethical and moral standards do play a significant role in the leadership. Nevertheless, I argue that a public official should not be required to strictly confine oneself within the sphere of morality【confine···这句想得好贴切啊,赞】 insofar as a leader is also a common person who would consciously or unconsciously make some mistakes and insofar as there are also other important peculiarities【这个词似乎用在这里不是很恰当,你的意思我还是明白的】 for an effective leader. To further shore up my viewpoint, I would present my analysis in details as below.【这句可以不要这样简洁些又节约时间】

To begin with, the highest ethical and moral standards do go a long way toward performing as an excellent leader. As for the leader oneself, maintaining highest ethical and moral standards would ensure one's leadership. After all, people would never want to see that their leader usually associates with illegitimate affairs, say【不明白耶】, bribery, fraud, and which would at length pose threat to the leadership. From these we can see that to be an effective leader, especially a political leader, possessing an appropriate ethical and moral standard is instrumental for both their leadership and society.【例子很独到基本没人用,赞,看了好多人都用Nixon的case】

However, it would be too critical to require every leader to have the highest ethic and morality. After all, nobody was born to be perfect. People should allow their leaders to have some faults as long as those faults are not relevant to the public affairs. To illustrate this point, we can take a look at Martin Luther King Jr.【用他的人就有点多哦,但是我看到的几乎是用在正面的,都是说他道德很高耶,不太了解此人,好像高中还学过,但是可能当时对他没好感,所以没啥印象了】,who were famous for his struggling for the rights of the blacks in the United States, had been proved to live a tawdry life in his private time. However, until today no one would deny that owing to his endeavor, the black people in American gain the precious equality and freedom. In fact, when we evaluate a person, we all tend to judge him or her from only one or several leading aspects. The same is true with the leader. Furthermore, to be an effective leader, many other characteristics are also needed such as courage, perseverance, intelligence, ideal, etc., which may serve to offset the deficiency of their ethic and morality. For example, Bill Clinton【偶也用了他的啊,好多用啊,杂拌啊】, though involved in the sexual affairs with Monica Lewinsky who was a White house intern, once again prompts the debates between leadership and morality. However, should people judge him as a devil merely because of that scandal? Absolutely not. In fact, Bill Clinton is considered to be an excellent president till now in that it is he who rescued the country from the depression of economy and also who lead their people as well as their nation to the prosperity of today. However, since a leader is also a man, flaws of who should, to certain extent, be forgiven.

开头i am inclined to.....
Martin Luther King
