I do not agree with the speaker's opinion that governments should pay much attention on the immediate problems of today rather than the anticipated problems of the future. In my point of view, the immediate problems need to be solved as soon as possible, whereas the future's potential problems should also not be overlooked. Moreover, in many occasions, to make efforts for the future's problems can also help the solving of current ones.

Admittedly, the immediate problems are so important and serious that must be solved quickly; otherwise, can threaten the stability of societies. What are immediate problems? Such as high unemployment rate, widespread disease, floods, earthquake and the like. Take unemployment as an example. If lots of workers lose their jobs and incomes, then they cannot afford their families. If such basic needs cannot be satisfied, people will lose their confidence of the governments and then the societies will be disturbed dramatically and the governments will even lose their regimes. Thus, governments have to try their bests to create more job opportunities or provide help to the workers in order to solve this problem. For another example, in 1999, SARS was spread quickly nearly all around the world, and especially serious in some countries. During that period, to control the spread and to find treatment for the disease became the first important task of governments since it had threatened people's lives.

However, many problems, although they are anticipated that will occur in the future, but they are very complicated and need a long period to solve or have a strict time demands, so governments have to focus lots of energies and money on them.  Take a typical instance. Many socialists anticipate that after a few decades many countries will enter the 'aged' era, that is, the old population will even exceed the younger, which will bring great pressures to the societies. One of the effective methods to the problem is to increase the population of children. Of course the problem seems not crucial in current era, but if we begin to solve it until it becomes clear many years later, it will be too late. Consequently, governments have to change their population policies from now.

Finally, we should not neglect the fact that the solving of some future problems can do help to the current immediate problems, in other words, if the future problems are solved, the current problems are also solved naturally. For example, many experts have found that the energies, such as coal and petroleum, are becoming more and more shortage, and maybe a few years later our offspring will experience an energy crisis. Then to find new types of energies is a very important task. But how does it relate to our current problems since we still have enough energy to use now? The answer lays on the pollution problem. As we all know, the current energies always bring great pollution to our environment. However, if we find new energies that do not pollute environment, the current environment problem will certainly be solved partly.

To sum up, with the limited energies and money, governments should keep a balance between the immediate problems and the anticipated ones and try to make a best plan to solve them.
