Argument161 In a study of reading habits of Leeville citizens conducted by the University of Leeville, most respondents said they preferred literary classics as reading material. However, a follow-up study conducted by the same researchers found that the type of book most frequently checked out of each of the public libraries in Leeville was the mystery novel. Therefore, it can be concluded that the respondents in the first study had misrepresented their reading habits.

In this argument, the arguer’s conclusion that the respondents in the first study did not tell their real reading habits suffers several serious flaws as discussed in the following because he supports his conclusion only according to the status of borrowing books in libraries and fails to provide strong evidence.

First of all, the arguer wrongly assumes the respondents in the first study and the people who borrow books from the public libraries can represent all the Leeville citizens. It is possible that the first study was conducted at a literature college and the respondents were mainly not very young, so they maybe more like literary classics. It is also possible that most of the people who go to the public libraries to borrow books are children or students from high schools who maybe have great interests in mystery novels. Thus the respondents of both the two studies cannot represent the whole citizens of Leeville.

Secondly, the arguer also makes the false assumption that the mystery novel, which is most frequently checked out of the public libraries, is also the most liked book. Granted that the respondents of the two studies are the same group of samples, one possibility is that there were few literary classics in the public libraries, so the respondents had to buy the books themselves; however, the mystery novels were so plenteous that people can borrow whatever they want to read. Another possibility is that the respondents were accustomed to collect the literary classics, thus when they wanted to read, they also would choose to purchase rather than to borrow from libraries.

Last but not the least, the arguer overlooks the possibility that the second study may be conducted many years after the first study when people maybe have changed their interests. Because the arguer does not provide the information about when the two studies were conducted, so although the two studies were conducted by the same researchers, they could have a very long time interval. It is likely that the first study was conducted when the literary classics were very popular among the residents, so most of the respondents said they preferred literary classics as reading material, whereas the second study was made during a period when a mystery film was showed and the film caused residents’ great passion on mystery novels.

To sum up, the arguer is too cursory to make the conclusion with little strong evidence to support him. To make his conclusion more convincing, he has to take the facets discussed above into accounts and to conduct a wide and reasonable survey to confirm which kind of book on earth is favored by Leeville citizens.

I do not agree with the speaker's opinion. In my point of view, I think whether facts can be altered is decided by how fact is defined. Since fact has several kinds of definitions, in some occasions, facts can be changed; however, in other occasions, facts are unchangeable. In the following, I will analyze it from its different definitions separately.

First of all, fact can be defined as a thing done and then it cannot be altered by our wishes（用HOPE WISH 如果我没记错哈对能实现的事情的，HOPE对梦想）, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions because nothing can change the history. Since time will never go back, so what have happened will never occur again and the results also cannot be changed no matter how people hope them to be. Every people, even the most cautious person is unavoidable to make some mistakes, and many people will regret for their faults, however, what they have done have became the facts and what they can do is only to do some remedies rather than change the history.

Secondly, fact can also be something having actual and demonstrable existence, that is, the truth, which is stubborn and unchangeable. There are many things of this kind, for example, the order of nature or the theories that have proved to be right. People should never try to alter those facts; otherwise, it not only cannot gain benefits but also will even bring disasters to the world. For instance, in the past, people were not pay much attention to those facts and performed many activities that conflicted with the order of the nature, such as deforestation, pollution, and etc. The results were that now people begin to receive the punishments of nature, for example, floods, acid rain, and the like. For another instance, the theory conversation of energy has been proved to be true, however, there still have some people who want to invent perpetual motion machine and they will certainly not succeed because such machine does not accord with the above theory.

Finally, when fact represents a real occurrence or an event, people can alter it as their will. They can change our opinion, they can alter our decision, they can rearrange our plan, they can redesign our room at any time, they can take cosmetic surgery if they are not satisfied with our appearances and in some extreme situation, they can even change their gender if they like. All the changes depend on people themselves as long as the activities do not break the laws.

To sum up, fact is a big concept, and whether it can be changed depends on what it actually represent. For thing done and truth, it is stubborn; for common thing, it can be altered.

从破题来看，如果我写我就把唯物论和唯心论对比写下。永动机写的很合适。我感觉眼睛一亮。好例子多想几个好词来写，考官好的感觉会停留到判分的时候的。结尾和结尾前一段。应该是限时的原因吧。太简单了而且不出彩。 总的语言朴素，用词合适看起来还是舒服的。我就留个祝福吧！
