I do not agree with the speaker's opinion. In my point of view, I think whether facts can be altered is decided by how fact is defined. Since fact has several kinds of definitions, in some occasions, facts can be changed; however, in other occasions, facts are unchangeable. In the following, I will analyze it from its different definitions separately.

First of all, fact can be defined as a thing done and then it cannot be altered by our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions because nothing can change the history. Since time will never go back, so what have happened will never occur again and the results also cannot be changed no matter how people hope them to be. Every people, even the most cautious person is unavoidable to make some mistakes, and many people will regret for their faults, however, what they have done have became the facts and what they can do is only to do some remedies rather than change the history.

Secondly, fact can also be something having actual and demonstrable existence, that is, the truth, which is stubborn and unchangeable. There are many things of this kind, for example, the order of nature or the theories that have proved to be right. People should never try to alter those facts; otherwise, it not only cannot gain benefits but also will even bring disasters to the world. For instance, in the past, people were not pay much attention to those facts and performed many activities that conflicted with the order of the nature, such as deforestation, pollution, and etc. The results were that now people begin to receive the punishments of nature, for example, floods, acid rain, and the like. For another instance, the theory conversation of energy has been proved to be true, however, there still have some people who want to invent perpetual motion machine and they will certainly not succeed because such machine does not accord with the above theory.

Finally, when fact represents a real occurrence or an event, people can alter it as their will. They can change our opinion, they can alter our decision, they can rearrange our plan, they can redesign our room at any time, they can take cosmetic surgery if they are not satisfied with our appearances and in some extreme situation, they can even change their gender if they like. All the changes depend on people themselves as long as the activities do not break the laws.

To sum up, fact is a big concept, and whether it can be changed depends on what it actually represent. For thing done and truth, it is stubborn; for common thing, it can be altered.
