Dear Mr XX,

I am pleased to inform you that you have been admitted for graduate study toward the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Plant Pathology, beginning in the fall semester of 2006.  We are also offering you a full time Research Assistantship (RA) to support you during your graduate studies here. The assistantship pays our standard graduate stipend of $16,500.00 per year. If you are making good progress in your graduate studies and if your research performance is satisfactory, you will receive highest priority for renewal of your assistantship each year as you work toward your Ph.D. degree.  A majority of our students complete all of their degree requirements within four or five years.

The department, in collaboration with the Graduate School, will provide you with a full tuition scholarship for the appointment period. Student health insurance is also provided for full time assistants, as described below.

We are excited about your application and hope that you will accept our offer and join us in August.  Please let me know your decision, in writing, on or before April 15 (but sooner if possible). With the visa application process taking much longer these days, the sooner we can begin the better.
