In daily life, such complaint is often heard that one has no choice. But whether our choices are so limited that the circumstance of no choice is frequently presented? My answer is negative, I believe that though our options may be under the confine of laws or ethics, the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very rare, for in fact choices are much more than one's imagination and some of the case of no choice is actually that one declines some choices for they are not appealing.

As a threshold matter, people are inhabiting in a world with various options and a society of democracy that people are free to choice. It is the self-evidence that people have a free mind and decide on their will, besides, the high technology provides with more options than we ever have and image. For example, people could decide how he/she looks like, what to eat, to play chess or basketball, and with the advancement of technology of medicine, they could even decide what their future baby's gender and appearance. Even in the union that with high conformity, people still have the right to be free mind, at least the choice to be or not to be is inalienable. Therefore, the circumstance of absence of choice rarely occurs in modern world.

Meanwhile, it is the fact some of the choices are confined by the orders and laws and ethics of society, but people still possess the limited choice only they are ready to endure the outcomes and punishment of laws. Since in human realm, laws and orders are settled to keep society in regulation and development, some kind of activities which are disadvantageous and damage to the well being of other member in society and the society are restricted, so do the ethics, thus such choice is always the least attractive, like cheating and robbing, ascribing to the common sense that the punishment and blame consequent with such choice. However, though it is the fact, people still have the option in hand, as long as he is ready to face and response to the outcomes. As a result, the restriction of society and ethics does not decrease the choice, and contributes to the absence of choice.

However, some situations of no choice are more likely to result from the less attractive and ideal choice or lack of appealing choice. It is true that people will evaluate the choice before they make a decision, and the value of the choice is according to their will and personal principle, as a result, some of the choice that contradicts against individual principle or the consequence is unfavorable will be automatically removed, causing the case that less or no appealing one is left and arouse the complaint of absence of choice. When we have lunch, for instance, and find no food is favorable and then complaint that we have no food, but the fact is there are lots of food and just none meets our demand well. Hence, we actually have many choices, and some times have to make decision from the undesirable choice.


To sum up, according to what had been discussed above, a conclusion could be drawn safely that the absence of choice is a situation that rarely happened, resulting from the self-evidence that human are free-mind and make choice on a free will in the world filled with options. Though restricted under the order and laws and ethics of society, the choice is still free for people. The complaint of no choice lies on the lack of appealing choice. Thus, we should look through all the appearance of no choice to make best decision.
