In a modern democratic society, scandals remain an indispensable resource for ameliorating certain social problems, which may otherwise not be addressed to, nor be effectively resolved by any speakers or reformers. (看来是支持scandals 了,开头很简洁,好有个性哈)
To begin with, scandals can provide an impetus for much needed change. By drawing people's attention into politics, academia, or sports fields, scandals often lead to further query to various underlying problems that might be neglected. Take, for instance, the political scandals. Though those scandals may lower regard for individual politicians and government leaders, they greatly influence people's attitudes toward institutions and the political process. Watergate scandal of President Nixon not only led to his resignation, but also affected American democracy dramatically, making Americans rethink the democratic procedure practiced in their country. After the outsized accounting scandals like Enron and Andersen fraud case broke out, not only the people in the U.S. began to question the operative procedure and the credence of CPA firms, but also the whole accounting industry regrouped as an aftermath. Since the world famous historian Stephen Ambrose, author of more than 25 books of American history was accused of plagiarizing materials from other renowned historians, scholars as well as readers became more aware of the plagiarism phenomena in academia, demanding a more purified academic atmosphere. In these cases, indeed, scandals have sharpen the public's focus on the concealed problems. They urged people to find solutions, and thus led to the affirmation of general principles about how the country should be run. (例子好多哦,强!)
Scandals can also prohibit people from making similar mistakes by severing as a warning light to those who attempt to commit similar errors. Due to the immense influence that scandals may bring about, few people dare to risk themselves in front of the severe criticism and punishment. Philippine ex-president's gambling scandal and Chinese officials' corruption case (cases) have raised great challenges in governance system, at the same time, they managed to warn civil servants not to misconduct. Likewise, Michael Jordan's drug abuse scandal led to the establishment of the Jordan Institute for Families, which has been working to address juvenile issues such as drug abuse. In a sense, scandals offer an opportunity for people to learn from mistakes and avoid repeating them. However eloquent they may be, speakers or reformers frequently fail to deliver their reform plans, for oftentimes they could not convince their audience of the seriousness of situations. What is worse, they are often accused of being subjective and irrational because of their radical views and activities. Most of their speeches or proposals diminish before long, only to be found in a few dated newspapers or magazines that rarely matter. While scandals immediately focus mass attention by satisfying their curiosity about the dark side of the celebrities, of the widely known events, leaving them a strong impression about the scandals' influence. Moreover, scandals are easier whether in terms of broadcast or printed newspapers; and this partly explain why scandals can reach a wider audience than speakers or reformers could. (从reformer 和 speaker 的角度去论证的,不错)
In sum, scandals can play a constructive role in societies where there is a culture of accountability and an effective system to control and punish wrongdoing. Speakers and reformers fail to achieve that.
抱歉啊,Taro,我找不出什么错误哦,有的就是向你学习中。。。呵呵。。。进步太大了,我也要努力了。 |
