TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will betruly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individualneeds and interests of each student."
WORDS: 621 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2008-4-6 下午21:29:29
Will education be truly effective on whenit is specially designed to satisfy the individual needs and interests of eachstudent, as the speaker claims? In my viewpoint, I concede the importance ofeducating students' interests, while it is hardly for schools to specificallydesign for every individual.
To begin with, we all agree that the purposeof education is to develop students' interests, which somehow act a good effecton their future life. When children go to primary school, junior school andsenior school, they have to learn a lot of subjects such as math, foreignlanguage, physics and chemistry. Why need to do so many fundamental courses? The reason is that students can gain a lot of knowledge which will widen theirideas, logic. Moreover, these students will discover what they are truly interestedin through the course of learning. After they come to the college, they canchoose their favorite subjects.
Another goal of cultivating students'interests and is to satisfy the demand of society. It is undoubted that thedevelopment of the society requires improvements in every profession. Who canbring such improvement? It must be those who are specialized in relatedprofession. Retrospect the history and searching today, we can find out such a factthat the more interested in certain realm, the more values he/she willcontribute. Although Beethoven got deafness, he persisted to compose lots ofgreat symphonies due to his greatest interest and enthusiasm in music; "Thebest teacher is called interest", as one of the greatest scientists Einsteinsays. Einstein was interested in science when he was young so that his works"relativism" the world and bring a involution in physics. Thus, it isnot difficult for us to realize that educating the interests of the individualalso improve the society greatly.
However, do students just receive a specialeducation designed for their interests other than some other subjects? We haveto recognize that students have to learn other courses which might not be suitfor their taste, no matter how they are reluctant to. The only reason is thatall courses enacted by authorities are effective on students' growth and theirfuture life. For instance, a same conclusion drawn by most people that math isone of the most dull and among all courses; meanwhile, so many contents students have to resite that they are all tired with history. Yet, neither math norhistory would be eliminated because math can increase the ability of calculating, logic and amounts of culture and thoughts will be realized and comprehended bythe study of history. Further, the education of morality should not beneglected. Through educating students to establish a positive concept actionabout mercy, gentle, civility, respect and honor, would they be outstandingphenom when they grow up.
Unfortunately, it is idealized that every school can truly design special education for every individual to satisfy then eeds and interests of their own. The mere fact is that there are twenty evenmore students in a classroom, while just a teacher stand in front of the blackboard. Less teachers act less effect on satisfying individual’s interestsand needs. What’s more, schools may offer fewer facilities and fields to meetthe needs and interests for individuals as those headmasters are poor toacquire the funds. Even if schools are truly willingly to enact specialeducation to satisfy individual’s needs and interests, some negative factorsmay otherwise restrict such policy.
In sum, I support the speaker's claim thatindividual's interests should be needed by special designed education. We stillshould not other courses such as math, history, morality education, which will play a positive role on improving students' ability. Such factors consist thetruly effective of education.
