It has always been an opinion that education itself has been a tool for training students for the sake of gaining knowledge and improving their ability. But I don't agree with the fact that education itself has been designed to meet the individual needs. It is not possible in allocating the social resources.
Of course, from the aspect of the students, he can hope that the education is specially designed for him. He wishes to get the education just he wants, that is to say, meeting precisely his need and interest.
But as a member of the society we can't meet every individual needs and interests. The most fundamental problem is: the resource for education is limited. For instance, in my country the teachers prefer to go to cities rather than rural areas. Sometimes a teacher in a village is a science teacher, a math teacher and as well as a language teacher. In this case it is not possible to meet the basic demands for the students, let alone the individual needs. And this case is common in the western part of my country.
Even the resource is enough we still can't meet individual needs. Because we always have to compromise public needs and individual needs. We can classify students into different groups according to their accept ability but it is far not enough to cover their interests.
Finally as we know there is no absolute perfect idea to meet individual's demands. But we can't judge from this to say that the classroom education is not effective. At least we can meet the student's knowledge demands and leave them some after school time to digest the knowledge they receive. Also they can participate in the subjects they want in their free time. This can more or less cover their interests. To some degree according to the real circumstance this is a good choice.
  
So in conclusion the statement is too idealistic.Accounting for our rescores when we can cover most students' demands we can expect to be a success.
