"If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."



Is it justifiable that people seek a goal which is worthy by any means? In a sense, I agree that some means are justifiable to get one’s goal. However, no matter at the societal level or personal level, the means sacrificing other’s interest are inadequate and even should be prohibited.
To begin with, at the societal level, reaching a worthy goal which decides by significant figure subjectively needs hundreds of thousands of people’ effort. However, some extreme means may cause serious aftermath. For instance, the slaughter in the World War Ⅱ. Hitler, a cruel aspirant, thought Nordic is the best and Jewry leading to the economic decline in Germany should be not existed. By virtue of this theory, a firm crackdown on Jewry began and Hitler took brutal measures to destroy Jewry’s culture and kill people. Also, nowadays, the economic crisis is just caused by businessmen’s goal to maximize profit by any means. They think out varied checks, funds, insurance and so forth which are only empty promise. People circulate these bonds and finally the fraudulent chain breaks causing banks as well as companies’ bankruptcy. These impractical means result in the collapse of the economy.
Furthermore, sometimes it’s hard to define whether the goal is worthy. Environmental problem is a case in point. Employers want to develop the company to get most profit by building plants which may destroy the environment, while the environmentalists want to protect the atmosphere and decline the greenhouse effect by impeding companies’ development and gas emission. The advancement of economy can improve people’s life quality to some extent, however, the progress achieves at the expense of environmental deterioration. Some think economy which solves people’s pressing problems about food, clothes, shelter is more significant, and some think environment which is relevant to people’s survival in the future deserves more concentration and investment. Until now, people can’t easily assert which is the more worthy goal
Last but not least, at the personal level, one’s effort to get the worthy goal must comply with the laws and moral, or he will get the punishment finally. Sacrificing other’s interest to get our aims is unjustifiable and negative to a harmonious society. For instance, in order to earn more money, someone adds toxic materials into the milk powder. Hundreds of babies suffer from disease and even die because of drinking this kind of milk. This personal behavior made worse effect on society and consequently the principal is punished by the serious laws.

In sum, albeit the goal is alluring people can’t take any means to achieve it at the societal as well as personal levels, only complying with certain regulations and balancing the advantage and disadvantage completely we can take effective and reasonable measures to get our goals.
