"The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."


Can people tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people？To some extent I agree with point, however, when the society is constricted by governor as well as dominator the appearance and behavior of populace is just the tortuous reflection of the society and the real ideas in society is hidden.
To begin with, populace is the indispensable factor of one society which is constructed by people’s lives. The way people look, dress, and act is just a mirror of the civilization and development of a society. For instance, a century ago, when the right of women is ignored they are not permitted to wear trousers but skirts. Then, in the society women are discriminated and they don’t have the equal opportunity as well as salary with men. Vast majority of women are busy with housework and don’t have time to enjoy social lives. With the development of the society and the struggle of women for their own right, people recognize the significant position of women and trousers are not men’s patent. Also, women have the same opportunity to the job and they become the elites in many industries. The dress and act of women well reflect the ideas’ change in the society.
In addition, the atmosphere of a society decides the way people look, dress, as well as act and further accelerates the form of a society’s ideas. Socrates, pursues truth and contributes much to the philosophy, is a point in case. He lived in a relatively prosperous and democratic society which provided an excellent ethos truth. People worship knowledge and explore the unknown world including philosophy and science. Socrates is just the delegate of the civilized society. He always argued with others about what is justice, what is braveness and other problems which reflects the desire of populace to comply with ethic and moral. And their behaviors made a more civilized country.
However, through history some societies are governed by dictators who impose their own ideas on plebs. People’s behaviors are restricted by the unreasonable regulations and laws. In the second World War, Hitler, a cruel aspirant, controlled people and slaughter the Jewry. He regulated the Jewry must wear certain badge to show their identities and people must salute to the Nazi army. All these regulations are the reflection of his own ambition that control Germany even the world. Obviously, this attempt must fail and finally replace by people’s will.
All in all, society’s ideas and values is close relevant with the way people look, dress and act. They affect as well as promote the development of each other. Sometimes personal ideas control the whole society, however, this kind of behaviors must give way to people’s actions.
