The speaker considers that as long as people in a society are hungry or out of work or lack the basic needed to survive, the use of public resources to support the arts is inappropriate. However, in my point of view, I disagree with speaker for some obvious reasons.
To begin with, the hungry or out of work or lack the basic skills are always existed even if the society is modern and prosperous. The utopia which described as a equal country without hungry, diseases, war and conflicts is unrealistic, in the society, someone can survive and thrive during the fierce competition while someone may lose their jobs and can’t resolve the problems about food, clothes and shelter. Even in America, the most prosperous country in world today, there are still lots of people who struggle to live. Slums are everywhere in America while the mansions stand tall and upright in the city center. But the art is still develops in this complex melt pot. Also, in African, vast majority of countries suffering from famine and plague, the music with ethical features still grow vigorously and prevail to the whole world. Thus, the existence and evolution of art is not relative to the affluence of a country.
In addition, supporting to the arts can purify people’s soul and expel the society’s development. A society without arts is tedious and incomplete. To some extent, art cites the revolution and inspires people. For instance, much material and spiritual support makes Beethoven become the great composer. And Beethoven’s music brings out courage and confidence to people who lived under the cruel domination. His perseverance and persistence which are showed during his products still make a great effect on people today.
Last but not least, supporting to the arts is propitious to the survival of people whose work are relevant with art and can build excellent image for the supporter. This kind of support is meaningful that not only helps the form of great art, but also declines the unemployment. The fund to the musicians on the street can provide a better space for them to perform. The investment in a movie can help the director, producers and actors go through the dilemma and accelerate the progress of movie industry. At the same time, supporters build positive public image. Like the BMW supports many concerts, through these activities, BMW advocates its products as well as leaves the impression that its products just like the elegant arts and therefore win the praise from the world.
All in all, the support to the art is always necessary and indispensable no matter the status quo is bright or blue. The art can improve the progress of society as well as cultivate the excellent characters of people. We can reap a bumper harvest through supporting to the art.
