ISSUE 17 - "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."


When it comes to the issue about the laws, it seems so complicated that we have to analysis the situations carefully. As you know, law is a system of rules which shapes politics, economics and society in numerouse ways and serve as the important social and cultural mediator in relations among the human races. The legislature enact the laws with the ideas of laws which includes a great amount of wits. In order to manage the countries, governments should have to make people obey the laws.

Adimittedly, because of the laws are drawn up by people and are used in people’s daily life, they should have some subjective ideas from human’s brains. During the certain different period of history, the idea of enacting a law changes dramatically.Some laws were enacted for the interest of slave owners and some for the interests of Christines. That is to say, there didn’t exist exactly just or unjust laws, for the reason that we see the cases with our own judge. If a criminal was arrested for assassination or something, he would not want to admit that the trail is just because his reason for killing someone is “to-do- good-things-for-the-world”. Moreover, take the famous case Sturges v Bridgman for instance, a noisy sweetmaker and a quiet doctor were neighbours and they went to court to see who should have to move. How to make a JUST trail for both of them to this problem? So, It is contradictory to say there are two types of laws.

If the laws actually have some fallacies in some aspects, they should be also modified by legislatures with lots of triky procedures. And the modification of the law also makes difference in mordern society. From the Codex Hammurabi to the mordern system of laws, the laws have been modifed by different cases for different reasons and just meet the need of the majorities. With the development of the culture and society, flexibility of modifying a law is a international issue which is of significance to talk about.

We should obey the laws. Human beings, to some extent, are also animals, so they had to have some original and uncivilised habitants to live in this world. If people do all the things just for the sake of their desires, they would be crazy about pursuing the self goals without taking others’ cases into consideration. The eruptions of the wars are the examples. What’s more, in the form of the legal system, we can feel more secure on our properties, rights and obligations to live a better life in the society.

All in all, the difficult problem is not that we hold the opinion that there two types of laws, but the problem is that we still treat mordern legal systems as casual political joking and never see them seriously.
