48. "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."
历史研究过于关注个人。历史上最有意义的事件和潮流能够成为可能不是因为几个少数的名人而是一些身份早就被淡忘的人群。

We admitted that it is the elites who have been great influencing the development of our history and playing curial roles in changing and informing the society. However, we also should be aware of the fact that the majority of people is the base of history, without them the few famous will lost the  foundation of their success and the history also will have no root to stand on.
It is necessary to evaluate the value of elites in the trend of the 时代 and on the base of the multitude.

Looking back of history ,we find it is the elites who burning in the sky ,like stars, leading the progress of the society, and it is the few famous and excellent minds and souls, like pearls，who are pushing the development of the history.
For one thing, they as leaders in some significant national reforms crating great and important influence to follow societies. Emperor of Japan(1867-1912) who presided over the transformation of feudal Japan into a modern constitutional state. Besides, it is also the elites who have tremendous courage to rise against oppression Martin Ruther is the advocator of German Religious Reform Movement, whose religious idea is the fruit of his times with obvious anti-feudal trend and characteristics of struggling for belief  And Bolívar, Simón (1783~1830),known as The Liberator, South American soldier and statesman who led the revolutions against Spanish rule in New Granada (now Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador), Peru, and Upper Peru (now Bolivia).In a word, these excellent individuals stand in the front of the change leading others transcend the limitations of the ego.

However, we can’t overlook groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten for the brilliant and famous few, just like underestimate the importance of earth which embraces and nurses the flowers. No matter Lincoln who proclaimed the release of the slaves or Roosevelt who give American hope to overcome the menace of national economic collapse, they all took use of the power which people gave them to make their dream become realistic and the following person supported and helped them finish their historical responsibility. In short there is no one could win wonderful achievements. without multitude’s encouragement .

The majority are the creator of history , the massive material wealth and splendid civilizations created by people and also the curial power of social changes. Workers and farmers provide all society substance and tools to content its basic requirement. In addition, people and their common lives are the origin of arts which are considered as the rights of the upper class. If the elites depart themselves from the majority , it is impossible for them to make great contribution in  significant events and trends in history.

To sum up, elites is minority, their thoughts and behaviors bring underestimated effective to entire society and the history, thus, history remember them, honor them, but, the people’s  contribution  which may be more essential should also be emphasized. In fact, in any area ——art, politic, science, or technology,—the most important improvement are all relation with the elites and the majority.
