In the current roaring world, people have little time to look back to the past. They are busy with their work to get promotion and earn much money. Many people assert that there is no need to refer to the past because the present society is much more complex and newer than the past. However, history can tell us the origin of human society, gives people inspiration, encouragement and lessons. As we can see, history plays an indispensable and dominant role in our society, which we can't neglect curtly.

Admittedly, with the rapid human development, we should learn the new knowledge and absorb worldwide information quickly. Many current problems have never emerged before. Some need new science and technology to solve, while others, at least some traces, can be found in history. For example, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict attracts much worldwide attention nowadays. In order to solve it, we should refer to the history about these two countries, their difference in religion, their intricate policy. Human history is like a long river. If we find there is a certain place being polluted, we should not only focus on the place, but also trace back to its origin. Some delicate problems can only be settled down through a comprehensive command of the past.

In addition, we learn much from the past. A human is a useless cripple without a memory, and can become someone else's puppet when true memories are replaced with false. History is a mirror reflecting the trend of human development and gives lessons to current people to guild them living a better life and solving the urgent problems. Although the material world has experienced many great revolutions, the inner human natures have changed little. The evil part such as greed, laziness and desire still exist, which is the origin of a war. Through history, we realize that war only brings destructive effects to human beings, so all the nations are called to be tolerant to others. The two themes of the world are peace and development, which are drawn from many chilling mater-of-facts in history. Controlling our desires and avoiding wars provide us a better life and being tolerant offers us much happiness. All of these are appreciated by understanding the past.

Finally, we get encouragement from understanding the past. Almost everyone has an idol at the bottom of his heart. The idol must have a brilliant charm so that the person wants to imitate. Someone learns from Bruno to pursue the truth at any expense, someone follows Shakespear to be devoted into the artistic creation, while others follow the trail of Martin Luther to fight against racial discrimination. In addition, people get inspiration from understanding the past and create beautiful artwork for people such as Homeric Hymns. Also a variety of movies acquire good reputation for their deep thinking about the past such as Forrest Gump and Schindler's List, which also reflect that people indeed need these rethinking. History offers us encouragement dig the deep part of the positive of ourselves and provides inspiration for many artists to create the most beautiful pieces of work and to reach the peak of their career.

To sum up, despite of the complexity of today's society, the importance of understanding of the past can not be neglected. Many problems need to be solved by understanding history and we can't forget the lessons drawn from our ancestors. Moreover the inspiration and encouragement attained from the past also exert huge impacts on our present life.
