In this argument, the author suggests that the college and universities should adopt the Groveton College(GC)'s honor code system base on his assumption that the honor code used by GC is very effective on decreasing cheating. To strengthen his assumption, he enumerates contrastive data between five years ago and now. He also cites a survey result to prove this assumption. However, the assumption still has some fatal flaws the author has ignored.

First and most important flaw is whether the cheating in GC decreased indeed. As these cheatings are mainly from students' report, there still has possibility that some cheaters had not been discovered by using some high-tech tricks. Even worse, if the students cheat together and do not report each other, they can easily conceal the improper conduct on honor code system. Though the author uses some data to verify the honor code has successfully restrained the cheatings, he has ignored affirming the reality of these data. According to these data, there still have fourteen cases this year, so it seems not as effective as the author describes. To better validate his suggestion, the author must find more evidence to verify the assumption because it is critical to all deduction and conclusion in his editorial.

Another datum the author provides to supply honor code's availability, the survey of students, is also suspicious. Student who has cheat honor system successfully will definitely not deny its effectiveness. On the other hands, the author does not mention the number of students participated in this survey. It is easy to get a wrong conclusion if the samples the survey covered are not sufficient. Besides, the author ignores the character of these students also has influence on the result. For example, if the students involved were mostly the excellent students with outstanding study ability, or students who do not care the marks at all, they would not think they should cheat of course. In other words, the survey the author cites in this argument can not bolster the judgment that students' attitude toward honor code.

What is more, even if the author's assumption is right, it is improper for him to deduce that honor code would have same effect to other colleges and universities. If these colleges have harder course or more competitive environment, students there could cheat in examination more. In a word, the difference between GC and other college should be clarified before providing an objective and suitable suggestion.

In the end, the author needs more persuadable evidence to support his suggestion. For example, he is obliged to collect more objective and accurate data from all students especially the one who has cheated before to make his assumption more convinced.  In all, with these suspicious points clear, the advice of him would be relatively convinced.
