Issue27 No one can possibly achieve success in the world by conforming to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking."
15:00 03-8-23
In the modern world in which most people emphasize the importance of innovation and the ability to think uniquely, one is easily led to ignore the importance of conventional practice and conventional ways of thinking. However, what most people tend to ignore is also important to one's research and thinking, and it is also indispensable to the final success. Therefore, as what concerned in the topic above is not quite right, and after my personal deliberation, the way to achieve successes is in fact by both conforming the conventional practices or ways of thinking properly and thinking uniquely. And the following reasons can best support my view.
On one hand, the conventional practice and ways of thinking are researched by our ancestors time and time again, so during this course, they successfully lead us to the right and best way to success, otherwise, we will perhaps make the same mistakes and waste our time and energy. As Newton said, I can see further than others only because I stand on the shoulder of the giants. Even this outstanding scientist admitted that the conventional thinking of the others’ helped him, and his success was based on them, how about the ordinary people? When one is still a child, he thinks in the way his parents teach him, and what his parents first teach him are of course some conventional thinking, but not the creative ones. Another persuasive example why most success is more or less established on the conventional thinking or practice is the US. Why can it develop so rapidly and prosperously? One conspicuous reason is that during the third Industry Revolution, the US directly adopted the other countries’ conventional practices and thinking at that time instead of developing from the very beginning by itself. Because it is very apparent that if it developed its own technology by itself, it would fall behind the other countries, so the wisest way was adopting the conventional thinking and practices from the other countries and made some slight changes to satisfy it. And it is just by this way; the US becomes one of the most democratic, prosperous and cultivated countries in the world.
On the other hand, innovation is also indispensable during the way to success. As we just talked about the US in the third Industry Revolution, why did it make some slight changes after it adopted the conventional practices and thinking of the other countries? One reasonable explanation is that, if a country wants to become prosperous, democratical and cultivated, rigid accepting of the conventional practices or thinking is not enough, what it needs is also the innovation. Innovation, which we defined as the ability to accept new things, is indispensable on the road to success. Because the conventional things cannot satisfy the new and rapid demands of the pace of modern world, and it is obvious that if a person or a country cannot keep pace with the development of society, he will be quickly abandoned by the world. So if a person or a country want to stay in the modern world, innovation must be necessary.
In conclusion, it is wise for one to hand both the way of conforming the conventional practices or ways of thinking and the spirit of innovation. These two elements are both important to success, and cannot be abandoned alone. Without either or them, one cannot achieve the real success. Therefore, considering the reasons above, one can easily achieve conclusion that innovation which is based on the conventional practices and thinking is maybe the best way to achieve success.
