I agree to the speaker's claim that the discovery or progress mostly appear after mistakes. For through mistakes, some elements blocking people from success will be found out and expelled for further progress and discovery.

Admittedly, sometimes, people gain certain discovery and progress without mistakes at all. For example, people found colorful flowers would make people feel happy, moving melody would make people feel comfortable and imagine a lot and love movies could even drive people to cry. As the likes of these simply phenomena, people can have discovery at the first time without any mistake. In addition, some more complex discoveries just happen to people accidentally. They are very fortunate but seldom happen.

However, the most important advances in human history almost had frustrations before achievement. The famous instance is about the electrical bulb and Edison. After a thousands times experiments, Edison had finally discovered the most suitable material for the filament. It was the first electrical bulb in history, so no one can exactly told what the filaments should be made of. And the only avenue was to try and try again. During such a thousand times, Edison had experimented so many failures and made so many mistakes, through which he realized which material could not be fit to filament and which one could last longer than others. Ultimately, he accomplished this great achievement; otherwise, we still have to live in dark in nights. Mistakes are not the barricades on the way to success, the causes leading to mistakes are actually. So if we can find out the truly causes we ignored before and eliminate them, we will have discovery and progress.

Moreover, mistakes before success, maybe essential for the ultimate accomplishment. The experiments of failures are process of training both in knowledge and mental mind. Through mistakes, people gain some new points of knowledge--- the reasons of mistakes, which are progress in knowledge. And form a better thinking habit as caution, be patient and venture. The value of this is not limited to the sciences. In government and politics, progress usually comes about through dissension and challenge. When people pointed the mistakes of established institutions, government officials will ruminate over these and finally establish more proper ones. Similarly, the constitution today also has been amended by myriad times, because the flaws and foibles always baffle some cases to be solved reasonably and harm some people’s benefits.

In sum, people sometimes are so lucky that they discover something and make progress without any frustrations and mistakes. Nevertheless, at most, there can be discovery and progress only through mistakes, no matter in our personal growth, advances in science ,government, and laws .
