topic:
Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.

issue:
Although compared with the time a hundred year ago the technology has developed into a new era, there are still many things unknown to us. In order to fulfill present people’s curiosity, they always explain those mysterious things with nonmainstream science. At the same time, those inquiries will result in many side-effects.

To begin with, human always attempt to interpret those mysterious things with nonmainstream science for current knowledge cannot satisfy our curiosity. In the ancient time, people composed splendid myths to explain paranormal riddles. For example, now we realize that the exhaustion of body’s all kinds of organs is the cause of the end of one’s life. However previously, for the sake of removing doubts about death, Hades was invented to be a cold-blooded lord of the dead and ruler of the nether world, who was responsible for taking people’s body back. Even at present with flourishing science, people frequently resort to nonmainstream areas to answer questions which were hard to solve in mainstream science. For instance, to cherish memory of the dead husband, his wife kept all the furnishings at the same place as the husband was alive. One day, one slipper was removed a little bit away from another by accident. But after some time, the shifted slipper moved back to the unmoved automatically. At the first time, many people presumed that the soul of the husband was unwilling to depart because of the sincere love between the couple. After long-time scrutiny, the investigator discovered that the doer was the electromagnetic wave in this high-tech home.

Admittedly, to some extent nonmainstream areas of inquiry serve as a reliever to mitigate people’s stress which brought about by unknown future events. Sometimes when people encounter some crucial occurrence, they always surmise the incidental result which might bring about fulsome anxiety and insomnia. At this time, it is beneficial to resort to nonmainstream inquiries to transfer their attention and obtain some release of tension.

However, idolatrous trust will result in other side-effects, such as losing encourage and self-confidence. People who trust astrology and fortune-telling very much are inclined to consider that everything is arranged before, and maybe it is fruitless even through industrious endeavor, and therefore extinguish people’s enthusiasm. Baby-act students who lack ample scientific basis will pin their failure in exam on the “bad luck” rather than deficient study. Moreover, many uncommon opportunities will roll around when these fetichists are arranging intraday schedule according to taboos and fortunes published in the newspaper or weekly fortune-telling books.

On the other hand, it is hardly possible to judge the authority and validity of those nonmainstream inquiries for most nonmainstream inquiries are short of plenitudinous academic and experimental support, and always depend on limited hypothesis. Individuals should learn how to differentiate the good one from the deleterious choices. For instance, some people blindly trusting in psychical therapy and ignoring the orthodox cure will not be willing to see a canonical doctor which might lead to even more serious disease.

In conclusion, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry bring us some advantages along with baleful side-effects. Because it is difficult to judge the validity of them on the scientific level, to differentiate the beneficial and deleterious one become more and more important.

这篇issue熬得真不容易...没找着什么好例子:L

Although compared with the time a hundred year ago the technology has developed into a new era, there are still many things unknown to us.(这个,这个是标准的写法吗,感觉很中国化,如果是纯正英语的话就像三月学习) In order to fulfill present people’s curiosity, they(指的谁?) always explain those mysterious things with nonmainstream science. At the same time, those inquiries(他们本身应该没什么,是人们使用非主流到一定程度的副作用吧——个人感觉) will result in many side-effects.(这里就是文章的TS了吧,是要一竿子打死非主流么)

To begin with, human always attempt to interpret those mysterious things with nonmainstream science for current knowledge cannot satisfy our curiosity(只说好奇心就狭隘了,不如果是对精神上的一种满足,激励等). At the first time, many people presumed that the soul of the husband was unwilling to depart because of the sincere love between the couple. After long-time scrutiny, the investigator discovered that the doer was the electromagnetic wave in this high-tech home.(这个,挑语法的错误感觉没必要的,好像写歪了。。。)

。。Kongfu of halo wheel?
;P哈哈,渡渡,不会是查过字典的吧?

非主流,非主流领域... 我有想过埃及的占星术,从启明星的位置判断尼罗河的涨落.不过这算不算是天文学,而不是非主流了?
