Nowadays, even the science has made a spectacular progress; it is still not able to explain all the phenomena around the nature and society up to now. Naturally, some people turn to nonmainstream fields of inquiry such as augury, soothsaying for answers to the unexplained occurrence and moreover claim that the nonmainstream areas of inquiry plays a particularly vital part in the community through meeting human beings' demands for unknown knowledge and information. Admittedly, the critical role of those areas should not be ignored in the process of social evolvement; however the significance of unscientific areas of inquiry is limited and bounded. Moreover, it is science such as biology, astronomy, physics and so on who ultimately presents the true answers to our questions and doubt concerning the world.

To begin with, in the early days of the nonmainstream fields of exploration as augury, astrology, indeed not only satisfies human needs for unexplained phenomena which are not yet addressed by mainstream science, but also provide impetus for the progress of the mainstream science. Firstly, the temporary explanations will comfort people from the worry about uncertain world and abnormal natural occurrence. For example, when medicine is not yet developed in the ancient time, if people get ailment, they tend to look for a witch for a amulet which is regarded to be able to keep the people from sick and bad luck. Although the amulet has nothing to do with people's health, at least it will more or less bring much comfort and confidence in recovery. Secondly, the nonmainstream areas of exploration may promote the development of mainstream science in the total direction to a large extent. A case in point is astrology. When the science is extremely lagged and primitive in the ancient society, the great desire of people for the unknown world could possibly be satisfied by the speculations on astrology. With increase for more detailed information about the stars and planets in the galaxy, the appearance and development of astronomy is promoted significantly.

However, the explanations from the nonstrainstream fields of exploration as fortune-telling are temporary and doubtful. Those false answers might do considerable harm to the further development of the society, if human are simply content with them. Take medicine for example, if people totally believe in the advice from augur or witch and stop probing the way for treating disease and medication, it is entirely possible that that even now people still suffer the agony from various illness, let alone the progress in other fields of the society.

Furthermore, it is believed that the unexplained phenomena will be successfully addressed in the future, with the significant progress in the fields of mainstream science. As a matter of fact, there is still a long way for the science to cover, and perhaps there is no end for the evolvement. The reality of the performance of science has proved to us that some of the ancient puzzles have been settled by human till now. For instance, long long ago, people imagined about the mysterious moon and made up many folktales concerning it. The desperate pursuit of people for the unknown moon never stop with the astrology, and finally human succeed landing in moon in 1969. Nowadays people also begin to embark on the exploration of other planets and stars, which will undoubtedly accelerate the further progress of astronomy.

In summary, the importance of nonmainstream areas of exploration should be accepted and realized. However, more emphasis should be placed on the mainstream science, which will finally present us satisfactory true answers to our doubt and unexplained phenomena, further boost the evolvement of the whole society in many aspects.
