不好意思,给你改晚了
51"Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
How can education be truly effective? Some people assert the lessons designed to meet the needs and interests of each student [这里是否是少了一个词]the only way to implement the target of education. However, when reflecting the function of education in various aspects, we would get different answers from what the speaker claims.
As considering the effectiveness of education, a common question will naturally come up to our minds. What is the function, or we say, [这里是否加个what is]the aim of modern education? The answers [come应改为coming] from different nations and individuals are diverse. [The one gave me the most impression我觉得这里改成the one impressing me deeply] is a note from the file of UNESCO which claims that education throughout life is based upon four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be.
As learning to do and know are concerned, education gives us all kinds of professional skill we need to pursuit for a career; admittedly in this respect, it would really [help改为need] to open lectures specifically designed [for individual改为disparate] needs[ of改为] various individuals. Consider, for instance, the IT software engineers.[ For改为to become] a good software engineer, it is not so necessary to know electronics, chemistry or the very detail of CPU’s architecture, since this kind of training do less good to his work than the special training in data structure, OS and compiler. As[this kind of social division of labor改为division of social labors] is becoming more careful [这里用careful 不太妥当,换个词吧], it may be a more effective way to design lecture particularly for given needs of different individual.
As learning to live together is mentioned, the education designed for special interests may not help to construct good cooperation. In the modern world, nearly everything is a product of cooperation from a piece of paper to an erecting space shuttle. Bill Gates with help from other computer engineers make the Microsoft a great success in IT till now; Michael Jordan with the help of other teammates reach the summit of his career. If the only thing taught to them is the knowledge to programming and playing basketball, how could they [led应该是lead吧] a team or [cooperated这里应该不是过去式,应该是cooperate] with their colleagues to realize their own career? So without the interpersonal skill which is also the function of modern education, it is hard for an individual to make himself a part of socialization and achieve the goal of life.
As learning to be is discussed, it is divided into two levels. In societal level, education is tending to transmit democratic values and concept of freedom to new generations of citizens. In personal level, education is responsible to convey the common morals to us. In these aspects, the way to meet individual interests may sometimes do harm to our community and go contrary to the original spirit of education. For example, if the democratic values are not spread through our society, if education is designed to meet the needs of king, the country would be completely under the control of might. A case could be found in Japan where Mikado, the king of this country, force his people to fight for him and finally ruin Japan in World War II. For the personal level, I would like to take the moral relativism in United States as an instance. In 1970s, schools tended to allow the child to “clarify” his own values instead of accepting sound moral values; the movement did not clarify values at the end but only wants and desires; since no set of values was right or wrong, more and more young men without self-discipline and personal responsibility lost themselves in drug and violence.
In short, education meeting the individual needs and interests will not be truly effective in every aspect. As for the training of professional skills, admittedly, the lectures for various needs may be a good idea. But when it comes to other functions of education such as construction of cooperation, transmitting of democratic values and sound morals, the way to meet personal interests and needs may be a bad choice. |
