5. "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer."
一个国家应该要求所有的学生在进入大学之前都学习由国家统一制定的课程,而不是允许由国家不同地区的学校去决定课程的安排。

提纲:
1.  国家统一基础教育的课程有利于对整个教育系统进行管理,有利于在统一的标准下对学生进行考核和比较。学生也可以在一个平等的条件下进行学习。
2.  但是考虑到事实存在的一些问题,诸如地区差异,民族风俗差异,种族宗教差异,甚至语言差异等,要在全国范围内统一课程的做法不实际也不会达到预期效果。
3.  中国有句老话:量体裁衣,因材施教。统一的课程将会限制孩子的发展,尤其是他们的想象力和创造力。社会发展所需要的并不是清一色的人,而是形形色色的各层次各方面的人才。

When it comes to the education, especially the elementary education, various people would hold various opinions about the setting of curriculums in school. Many people suggest that a nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic course to offer. In my point of view, the uniform curriculums for all the students in a nation would be infeasible and even ridiculous.

It is undeniable that, requiring all the students to study the same national curriculum seems on the surface to be quite practical because the uniform curriculums are favorable for several facets such as the government of the whole national education system, a standard of the examinations and comparisons of the students, the au pair study condition for all the students, etc. Though we could list so many positive facets, there are more vital factors under the surface if we probe much more deeply.

Firstly, region discrepancy, culture discrepancy, race and religion discrepancy are all hindering the process of unifying curriculums in the nation wide. Take China as an example, which has as many as fifty-six nationalities, different folk people have great difference between each other in language, religion, habits, tradition and so on. For instance, common speech of Chinese language is still not widespread in Tibet, unifying the curriculums in Tibet as other places in China are obviously unfeasible. Besides, Hong Kong is another typical case. After being colony of UK for hundreds of years, it is much different from motherland China in every aspect such as the regime, the official language and the economic development level. It is hard to set a standard of curriculums to meet both Hong Kong and China. Time demonstrates that the policy about Hong Kong by our government is correct. And this “One country, two systems” policy is absolutely based on that the different places need different treat principle.

In addition, here is a Chinese old saying that: “act according to actual circumference, and teach students in accordance to their aptitude”, which reflects that in whatever fields including education the proverb “Circumferences alter cases” is always true. ………..突然不知道该怎么写下去了~
