Compare and contrast learning by doing to learning by reading. In your opinion, which is better? Use specific examples to support your opinion?
题目来源:Ace the TOEFL Essay (TWE)
My answer: There is an old said that “Knowledge is power.” We cannot deny that knowledge is more and more vital nowadays. And we need more efficient during absorbing knowledge. So I think learning by reading is better than by doing. Our ancients have collected knowledge in books. Books that with lots of scientific knowledge are made by our ancient, they made books from a number of failures and experiences. We should not waste their works instead of reading them, learning from them. For example, it is ridiculous that we are going to taste a toxic drag even we have had some kinds of medicine books talk about it. By reading these books our ancient made, we could save time when we are researching. We don’t have enough time to research by ourselves. When we step into primary schools, we start our diligent lives. We live with our numberless homework every day, even we could not have time to rest on our holidays. Especially in my country, students who are not college students cannot be busier than anybody else, at the same time, some of us who got financial subsidy have lots of work to do after classes. That’s why we are not interested in learning from doing. I think it isn’t real that let students learn from doing something. At least in my country, our traditional education could not make that happen, when we face to a new topic/idea, our teachers usually teach us what is it with the book first, after that we can do a little exploration. For instance, when we meet a new math formula, we always read, keep it in mind, and we directly start our exercises. We never think that how and why this formula comes. That’s why most of students in my country lack creativity.
Learning from doing, happy from learning; learning from reading, boring from learning.
