Should government preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state? When it comes to this question, different people may give different answers based on the environment which they have been brought up or their distinct experience of lives. AS far as I am concerned due to my own observation of life, I basically agree with what the speaker says, even though these areas are often extrmely remote and thus accessible to only a few people. In the following discussion, I would like to present my reasons to support my point of view.
To begin with, the important reason in support of my view is that the wilderness areas even the remote ones would play an active role in keeping the balance of the nature and ecological system. Because our world is a whole integrity, the damage of one part of the ecological system would ultimately lead to the whole damage of the world. Take the ozone layer of Antarctica as an example. With the development of the technology and widely used refrigerators, a lot of deleterious gases were sent to the sky which leads to a thiner ozone layer. The hole of the ozone layer in Antarctic not only destroys the balance of ecological system there but also leads to the higher level of the ocean which imfluent the whole world. So to preserve the wilderness areas in their natual state is very important to us everybody.
Secondly, maybe some people would argue that there are only a few people in those remote wilderness areas and only a few people could not do much damage to these areas. However, I suppose that these people underestimate the ability of damagement of the people in those wilderness areas. For example, in Tibet there is a very precious animal called Tibetan Antelope. The skin of this animal has a very good use of keeping warm, so there is great demand of the skin of Tibetan Antelope in Europe and other areas. As a result, some people prey on this precious animal in the sake of the money. Although there are only a few people doing this illegal business, the number of Tibet Antelope decreases at a high speed.
Finally, without the government, it is hard to preserve the publicly owned wilderness areas for the reasons that they are public owned and irrelevant to private interests. Just as an apt illustraion, the tragedy of the common shows, everyone in the common feed the number of goats in the sake of their maximum profit. Under this circumstance, the common was damaged due to the superabundant goats in the common. Consequently, there would be no goats any more. So if everybody persues their own profits or interests and take little consideration of others, there would not be a maximum profit of the whole society or the whole human.
To sum up, due to the above mentioned reasons, which sometimes correlate with each other to generate an integrate whole and thus become more convincing than any single one of them, we may be comfortable to say that Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas even the remote ones in their natural state.
