issue 50
"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant
to the courses they teach."

partly positive
1)to prepare students better  for a job
2)to be familiar with the new things
3)not all faculty should do
*********************************************************************************************
The statement above claims that all faculty should work outside the academia in professions relevant to the courses they teach, so that the quality of instruction at the college and university will be improved. I agree with the speaker that most of the faculty except those from the pure theoretic fields should participate the real works.

To begin with, engaging in the practical work will make professors acquainted with what is essential to the job and help them to prepare students better for their future career. I still remember when Rachel- in the TV play “Friends”- failed to find a job, she cried that “I’m trained for nothing!” This is a reflection of the problems in our education system: what we are taught is quite different from what the society needs. But things will change if professors instruct the knowledge in the textbooks combining with the personal experiences. With the vivid cases professors show in the class, students will find the complex principles much easier to apply, and will make good use of them in the similar circumstances. Besides, considering the information provided by professors what a job is and what a job needs, students can make a better decision when they choose what kind of jobs to pursue.

Moreover, participating a real work will help professors to comprehend what they teach better. The modern time is undergoing a rapid development: the great changes of technology make the knowledge, which people have already gained, easy to become out of time. Take law for example. Common sense tells us that the study of law relays on the analysis of the classic cases. But if a professor is not familiar with the cases of “internet crime”, how can he explain to his students? So it is our professors' responsibility to keep away from being “out of time”. And a possible way to be pioneers is taking a job in a law office. Their work experiences will not only enrich the minds of themselves but also the future lawyers who are used to be their students. The same circumstances also occur in other disciplines such as computer science, medicine, psychology, etc. That's why I strongly push the statement that faculty of applied disciplines should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach.

However, it is not to say all faculty should go out for the professions. Those professors who teach pure theoretical principles have no need to combine their lessons with world outside the academe. Contrarily, they should take more effort to their studies in the lab. There are two reasons for my view. For one thing, it is not easy for these professors who instruct biology, chemistry and physics to find a job which is relevant to their courses; for another thing, the purpose of teaching theoretical principles is just to give students a common sense, rather than training them for a certain job.

In sum, let the faculty of applied disciplines attend a job in the outside world, and let the faculty of pure theoretical disciplines study principles in the academe. That should be a better way to benefit our students, our education, and our society.

The statement above claims that all faculty should work outside the academia in professions relevant to the courses they teach, so that the quality of instruction at the college and university will be improved. I agree with the speaker that most of the faculty except those from the pure theoretic fields should participate the real works.(这里最好不要用agree with the speaker that...,因为原文的观点和你并不完全一样,还是用I concede that比较保险)

Moreover, participating(in) a real work will help professors to comprehend what they teach better. And (and开头不好呵)a possible way to be pioneers is taking a job in a law office.

However, it is not (proper)to say all faculty should go out for the professions.

I (partly,毕竟题中是给的all facultylz给的是most of,否则有藐视原题之嫌了 呵呵) agree with the speaker that most of the faculty except those from the pure theoretic fields should participate inthe real works. With the vivid cases professors show in the class, students will find the complex principles much easier to apply个人感觉这里改成understand比较好,因为课堂偏知识理解嘛,而且下文又说到了实际应用,就没必要重复), and will make good use of them in the similar circumstances. Besides, considering the information provided by professors what a job is and what a job needs, students can make a better decision when they choose what kind of jobs to pursue. (例子不错,总结也很好)Moreover, participating in a real work will help professors to comprehend what they teach better. So it is our professors' responsibility to keep away from being “out of time”. a possible way to be pioneers is taking a job in a law office. Their work experiences will not only enrich the minds of themselves but also the future lawyers who are used to be their studentswho are their students now. For one thing, it is not easy for these professors who instruct such as biology, chemistry and physics to find a job which is relevant to their courses; for another thing, the purpose of teaching theoretical principles is just to give students a common sense, rather than training them for a certain job.(这句话。。 而且大学里专业多少是要为将来就业做准备的~) In sum, (universities and colleges should encourage 不要let)let the faculty of applied disciplines attend a job in the outside world, andwhilelet the faculty of pure theoretical disciplines study principles in the academe. That should (might) be a better way to benefit our students, our education, and our society.
