TOPIC: ISSUE11 - "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

WORDS: 520

In this statement, I interpret the speaker's viewpoint in the following two respects: (1) all nations should be called upon to act together to establish a global university; (2) the global university should be designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems. I strongly agree with the speaker that the establishment of a global university is becoming essentially important in today's world context. However, such a global university should not aim only solutions of persistent social problems, in my point of view.

Firstly, the speaker fundamentally suggests that a global university should be established by all nations, which I find, to a great extent, instructive and constructive to the development and harmony of all the nations around the world. Reasons are conspicuous. In today's society, globalization has made its appearance in nearly every corner of the world. Consider the international trade for example. No adequate knowledge of values and customs of targeting countries the businessman possesses, no chance of success there might exist. Or consider the field of politics. Exclusive awareness and understanding of other countries may probably result in unreasonable arrogance, hatred or even wars between these countries. It is in such a global university that students most efficiently benefit, where they can learn about how to make their analysis and come to their conclusions from a global perspective in today's world.

Secondly, although I concede the speaker's suggestion that the development of a global university should be supported; there still exist some flaws in his definition of the purpose of global university, that is, to address the world's most persistent social problems. First, some of the social problems lie firmly fixed there, because they spring from human nature, such as wars, violence, and crime, etc. It might be unreasonable for us to formulate any feasible solutions to eliminate them completely, which has always been proved by history, even though a global university is existed. Second, a global university, in my observation, is a place where the cultural diversity extends and human society develops. For instance, in absorbing various elements of different cultures, the American culture is becoming the most diversified and tolerant one compared to those of other relatively isolated countries. And cultural heritages of one country or another have found its way to be carried on in this process of globalization. In short, a global university is unarguably in need to solve some of the world's social problems, it also serves an important role to provide a ground for different cultures of human society to survive and thrive.

In the final analysis, I generally agree with the speaker that all nations should act together to support the development of a global university because it is in response to the increasingly complex globalization world context. However, such a global university should not only strive to tackle with social problems, but also take the responsibility for prospering and carrying on the diversified culture of human society as well, which also means that all nations are inherently obliged to maintain their own distinct cultural characteristics in this process of globalization and assimilation.

希望能在论述方法上多给些建议,谢谢;)
请猛批!
提前祝了: Happy Valentine's Day!

[我的立场和你区别很大,我觉的你的正面论述的很好]
[这道题目的重点我还不是很确定至今,只能改到这份上了,凑合凑合吧]
