In this argument, the arguer attempts to convince us that anyone who snores should try to eat less and exercise more. To support the conclusion, the arguer cites the result of a recent survey that people who snores are more likely to gain weight. He or she point out that sleep apnea-the interruption of breathing-wakes people nighttime and leave people tired next daytime. As it stands the argument suffer from several critical flaws as follows.
In the first place, the arguer commits a fallacy of oversimplification in claim that anyone who snores should try to eat less and exercise more based on the reason that people who snores are more likely to gain weight. The mere face that people are more likely fatter than others due to snoring is insufficient evident to the arguer’s conclusion. To stop gaining weight because of snoring, people should concentrate on the inherent aspects of snoring other than merely eat less or exercise more. In other word, less eating and more exercises are not the best way to solve the problem caused by snoring.
In the second place, based on the unwarranted assumption that people who snore stop breathing during the night for a few second the arguer takes it for granted that people will be too tired during the day to exercise. But he or she fails to take into account that there may be some other reasons leading to people’s tiredness such as going to bed lately, working hard during daytime, weakening in physical body etc. Admittedly, sleep spnea will wakes a person a few second in night, but as far as the arguer concerned the waking often goes unnoticed. So the arguer’s assumption is in lack of solid ground.
Finally, the conclusion that no matter who snores should try to eat less and exercise more is open to doubt. Different people have different physical conditions. Compared with the young, old people should have a regular diet and do moderate exercise, otherwise, they will be easily suffered from illness. Moreover some people snore seriously but others snore every once in a while. Before drawing a conclusion something about the snoring should be presented.
To sum up, the conclusion reached in this argument lacks credibility since the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer claims. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer should provide more information concerning less eating and more exercise are benefit to stop gaining weight caused by snores, otherwise the argument is logically unacceptable.
