Michigan Secretary of State's office has just established new requirements for
obtaining a Michigan driver's license or a State of Michigan Identification Card.
Effective immediately, anyone applying for a Michigan driver's license or State I.D. card
will have to present proof that s/he is a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident
(green card holder) of the United States.

At this time, the International Center would also like to inform international members of
the U-M community that it is legal for citizens of most countries to drive in Michigan
using their home country driver's licenses. An international driving permit is not
required.

i just got this email. in a word, you cannot get a driver's license in MICHIGAN if you are NOT a US citizen or green card holder. But a driver's license from CHINA should be ok:)

sooooooo... get a driver's license before entering the US:rolleyes:
