Three research assistants are sought for regardinginvestigations in the area of data management and mining in systems biology.Each research assistant will contribute to one ofthree complementaryresearch projects funded by Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA). Atfirst, thisposition is limited to June 2010. In case of a positive evaluationofachievements, which is expected, it is highly likely that this positionwillbe extended for at least one more year. The research focus of thesethreepositions is any one of the following topics:
1.
Investigate efficient and scalabletechniques forbuilding storage and query tools for biological data. Akey goal is to buildtools that can enhance the usability of the systemby biologists.
2.
Investigate efficient and scalable techniques forin-silico combinational drug therapy.
3.
Investigate efficient and scalable techniques forsummarizing and comparing protein interaction/molecular network data.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a computer science/engg.degreefrom a good University with very good grades. A good knowledge ofdatamanagement techniques, algorithms, and data mining (optional) isrequired.Knowledge of biology is not mandatory for Project 1. It ispreferable to havebasic understanding of biology for projects 2 and 3.Excellence, reliability,capability of independent as well as team work,aptitude to theoretical as wellas practical work, very good programmingskills, very good control of theEnglish language are expected.
Working Environment:
The positions are in a motivated, cooperative, andfriendly team consisting of doctoral students. The projects are led by Assoc/PSourav S Bhowmick of NTU and Prof C Forbes Dewey, Jr of MIT, USA andhave collaboration with biologists andcomputation biologists. The teamis dedicated to the training of youngresearchers especially researchassistants and doctoral students.
The candidate will closely work with doctoralstudents and project leaders.
The School of Computer Engineering of theNanyangTechnological University, of which the team is a part, isdynamic and engagedin various research activities.
