Imagine a scene, when the doctor sorrily told parents that their child had a month to live, what came to parents' mind first. It could be anything but telling the truth directly to their kid. There are always such circumstances where we consider lies are appropriate or even necessary, so we give these lies a nice name" whiter lies"—lies that have no reason to blame. In a word, always telling the truth is not the most important consideration in relationship with people.(topic sentence)

Lots of people like to search for the nature of " white lies" by investigating the reason why we sometimes feel obliged to tell lies. As far as I am concerned, white lies result from the following reasons.

First and foremost, telling truth sometimes make no difference to the situations, especially awful situations. Instead, it will make things even worse. Everyone who have watched the well-known movie Forrest Gump should remember the scene when the teacher told Gump's mom that her son was below the ordinary intellectually. But Gump's mom, instead of telling Gump the truth, told Gump to pursue his own life. Admittedly, Gump's IQ cannnot be changed but confidence may be reserved when mom chose not totell the truth out. There are lots of similar circumstances in our daily life, one's not-that-good appearance, ugly clothes, somewhat disgusting food made by friends.Normally we deliver our praise without hesitation because we know fact cannot be changed while mood can be changed by our words.

Always telling truth, furthermore, will bring threatens to ourselves. It is a human nature that we dislike listening to negative comments on us even if they are telling the truth. Looking around the book market, one kind of books,which introduce principles that should be applied in office politics, is always a hit. Among all principles, one cannot be ignored. That is do not criticize your boss. The principle can hardly be obeyed if we always consider telling truth the most important thing because no one is perfect and bosses are bound to make mistakes occasionally. No boss like colleagues who figure out their mistakes everyday. Always telling truth can do nothing but achieve negative influence on your career and self promotion.

Impressive as the above two points, the third one cannot be ignored. Our society, having experienced long time of evolution, is built upon some rules, which cannot be broken. Some of rules, honestly speaking, are lies known by all but can never be told out. Anyone who casts doubts on appropriateness of these rules will definitely regarded as ridiculous or mad.

All in all, telling white lies is not " tragedy" of our society. Because they are anchored on a very sincere wish that we want relationship between each other better and better.
