Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Letting a friend make a mistake is better than saying or doing something that may destroy your friendship.

When your friends particularly close friends make mistakes, it is quite difficult to point out their mistakes since it may destroy your relationship with others or at least it is quite an embarrassing matter. However, in spite of these difficulties, I should still agree that we should do our utmost to point out their deficiencies and help them rectify them instead of just standing by.

To start off, even though at present your friends may commit some small mistakes, if you just stand by, your friends may ultimately make some serious mistakes. For example, at very beginning, some felons begin as just stealing some cheap goods or fighting with their classmates. However, perhaps, their friends may just stand by or sometimes help them due to allegedly “friendship” instead of warning them to get rid of such crime. They fail to realize the negative facets of these behaviors and continue to commit such mistakes. Gradually, they begin to steal some valuable things or just rob them from others with no fear. Even though you attempt to make some differences now, the effort may still be in vain at this stage.

Furthermore, to point out their mistakes will improve your relationship with your close friends instead of destroying your friendship. For example, when Mrs. Curie and Mr. Curie are just friends, they often picked out the other’s mistakes in the research and tried their best to help them correct them. However, their relationship never broke up due to such kind of quarrels. If this friend can accept your appropriate criticism and finally rectify their deficiencies, it means that this friend is open to an opposing opinion and eager to improve themselves. Otherwise, they only care about the praises and at least they are too vainglorious. Besides, if your friendship even cannot endure such disagreement, this friend may be just so-called weather friends.

However, even though we should point out our friends’ mistakes, this is not equivalent to the statement that we should indicate every mistake they commit. Everyone may make some mistakes occasionally and such mistakes do not represent the evil in your friends’ inner world. If we frequently point out our friends such small mistakes, our friendship may finally be ruined by such trivial and harmless mistakes.

In a nutshell, if the mistakes committed by our friends offend some laws or rules, we should do some thing to rectify them in the risk of destroying the friendship. Otherwise, if the mistakes are not so grave, we should learn to tolerate them.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is more important for a teacher to help students gain self-confidence than to teach them specific knowledge?

Sometimes, when students learn some knowledge for the first time, they may feel frustrated since they may make the repetitive mistakes and some impatient teachers may lose their temper on them. In this way, some students finally lose their self-confidence. However, in spite of this, learning new knowledge does not necessarily mean to lose self-confidence.

Excellent teachers can impart specific knowledge to their students without hurting the students’ self-confidence. For example, when Helen Keller’s tutor met Helen for the first time, the poor tutor felt so despair since this little girl had no idea about the outside world. Even under this circumstance, the kind tutor still taught Helen with all her patience and knowledge and she continuously encouraged Helen not to give into any difficulties. Finally, Helen became one of the famous writers at that age. The case of Helen’s tutor successfully substantiates that teachers can virtually impart knowledge to their students without hurting their self-confidence. Sometimes, the reason why some students may lose their confidence through the learning process is that the teachers lose their patience during this repetitive process.

However, even though we should blame partly on teachers for their impatience, the students sometimes lose their self-confidence themselves due to the desperate and repeated process. Someone may argue that if teachers still carry on teaching the students the specific knowledge, the students’ self-confidence may be seriously hurt. Personally, I think this saying is a little bit extreme. Most of the students cannot be so fragile that they fail to go through such difficulties. Otherwise, even though they may fortunately survive this terrible learning process, it is likely that they may still get trapped in other dilemma.

Nevertheless, teachers should still pay attention to preventing their students from losing their self-confidence due to the boring learning process. After all, the responsibility of the teachers is to impart the skills instead of torturing their students.

In a nutshell, personally, due to these reasons, I agree that it is more important for teachers to help students to gain self-confidence than to learn specific knowledge.

2.20Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should be paid at least as much as doctors, lawyers or business leaders are paid.

Ever since the civilization has appeared in the world, the teacher has become an indispensable occupation in the society. It is the teachers who cultivate numerous elites who change the history time after time and we should not neglect teachers’ great effort to the society. Someone may argue that we should pay high salary to them in order to show gratitude. However, personally, I think this is inappropriate.

To start off, how much we pay the employee for salary is determined by the effort they have put into their work. Furthermore, such effort can be measured by time, energy and so forth. For example, a doctor may be well-paid due to their long-time working since they should often work overtime in the night in the case of emergency. A business leader may earn a high salary since they should often put great energy into the work which he is responsible for. However, under most circumstances, a teacher is unnecessary to work overtime or take great pains to work. In other words, their efforts are not worth the high salary.

Furthermore, how much we get paid is also gauged by how much we can produce. That is, if we make great contribution to the society, it is likely that we should also get high salary. Perhaps, someone may argue that teachers literally make great contribution to the society since they breed many excellent masters in the world. However, this saying is a little bit ridiculous since it is not the teachers who make direct contribution to the society but their outstanding students. For example, a lawyer earns a high salary since they uphold justice. Even though their success is partly owing to their teachers’ cultivation, their own hard working and talent also count for their accomplishment. In other words, teachers only make indirect and part contribution to the society. Therefore, their contributions are not worthwhile for the high salary.

Finally, how much we earn is also equivalent to how much our skills are worth. For example, if we possess a skill which no one else has, it is likely that we may earn a high salary. A doctor is proficient with a skill of curing the patient when no others are acquainted with. He or she is likely to earn a high salary. However, in the case of teachers, many of their skills are also shared with others. Their skills are not rare in this world. In the market of demand and supply, they are unlikely to have high salaries.

In a nutshell, even though we should show our respect for our teachers since were it not for them, we might have no chance to learn new skills, it is still improper to turn this respect into higher salary. How much we get paid is measured in many ways besides respect.

That is, if we make (a) great contribution to the society, it is likely that(放到句首比较顺,也许是我的习惯吧^^呵呵) we should(if --would) also get high salary.

2.21Do you prefer to finish a project completely then to another one or do two or several projects at a time?

Even though handling one project at each period has its own advantages such as preventing us from being distracted by other things, the rapid pace of daily life propels us to handle one more projects. Besides, personally, I still prefer to handle many projects at the same time.

To start off, it is unlikely that we have many opportunities to process projects one after another. We can take the final exams for a concrete example. Perhaps every student may face many exams which are crowed in the end of the semester. Sometimes, these exams also belong to different subjects. It is quite impractical that we can prepare for these exams one after another since two exams may be arranged in the same day and under this circumstance we may have no time to prepare for the second exam in this day. Due to the high concentration of our daily matters, I may prefer to handle these things in a “parallel” method.

Besides, the inspiration from one project may contribute to solving the difficulties met in other projects. For example, when Mendel did the experiment supporting the principles of the genetics, instead of getting the conclusion directly from this experiment, he benefited a lot from other experiments done at the same time. Most of the time, the projects processed at the same time may have many potential relationship with others. Sometimes, the problems in these projects are solved in the same way as the game of Domino does. Therefore, the experience harvested in one project may also have a positive influence on another one.

Last but not the least, when stuck in one project, we can shift our attention to another. This method makes me more efficiently since when trapped in one project, if we insist on carrying on it, we can only end in nothing done but more exhausted. However, if we can spend this period of time coping with other projects, not only can we make progress in other projects but also we can be more energetic to throw ourselves into the former project.

In a nutshell, both my personal preference and the current situation force me to consider handling many projects at the same time as an ideal choice.

2.22. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most people often let others make decisions for them rather than make decisions by themselves.
14:08
Since the situation of our daily life has become increasing complicated, most of us cannot make decisions all by themselves. We should absorb the beneficial advices from others and gauge the advantages and the disadvantages. Ultimately, we can make our decisions. However, even though others can assist, it is us who make the final decision.

To start off, no one else has a deep comprehension of your situation except yourself. That is, even though others can provide some favorable instructions for you, their instructions are based on their own experience and values. Perhaps, you can give some clues to your friends to help them analyze these issues in your shoes. However, their analysis process is still mixed with part of others’ own ideas which fail to match with yours. After all, you are not others and therefore their advices or decisions cannot be completely copied. Finally, due to others’ lacking of your own situation, you should still make the decisions all by yourself.

Besides, it is also unlikely that we can total believe in others to make decisions for you. Perhaps, others may make some mistakes or neglect some important facets in your issues. Or perhaps, others may cheat you to make false decisions on purposes for their own profit. If you let others take your place to make decisions, many accidents may happen beyond your control. How can you feel relieved to allow others to take your responsibility?

Last but not the least, many urgent decisions which should be made immediately cannot wait for you to find someone reliable to help you do it. For example, when we take exams, it is quite ridiculous for you to wait for others to help you choose an option. When the doctor copes with a life-and-death matter in the emergency room, he or she cannot wait for others to make the decisions. Time after time, we should make decisions with no time left. It may be impractical for us to wait for others to make the decisions.

In a nutshell, generally speaking, waiting for others to make decisions for you is not only an uncommon but also a rare situation. Even though many people may accept lots of advices from others, it is still themselves who make the final decision.
