will human mind always be superior to machines? if judged on the foundation that the machines are and always will be only
human's tools, this assertion is definitely true. adversely, a historical view or a reflection of the relationship between
human and machine will challenge this saying.
machines, as they are defined, has long been the best servants of human race. from the ancient invention of bows to the newly
emergence of cameras , we have benefited so much both physically and spiritually from them. thanks to creativity of human
beings that we have bring out so many kinds of machines to facilitate and placate ourselves. there is no doubt that we will
step into the future with the company of our updated machines.
but when it comes to the future, nothing is predictable, including the issue that whether machines will keep their loyalty
and serve people while they are more intelligent and stronger than human race. the research of intelligent robots has made
great breakthrough, and is most likely to keep being ranked as one of the
hottest scientific field. the technology trends
has inspired Asimov, one of the best scientific fiction writers, to lay out the Three Laws of Robotics, in which the people's
absolutely control of robot is required in case of machine's harm to mankind. in view of people's creativity, these laws are
no jokes but serious moral principles of the researchers. after the computer controlled intelligent robots are successfully
made, the circulation of virus can be the human's worst dream. in the movie of Matrixs, we have already seen the disaster of
rebelling machines. afterall, anything may happen in the future, even something we do not want, like being the tools of our
own machines.
moreover, we may already have been controlled by our machines in an unnoticeable way. as our machines are turning to be more
complicated and used more widely, the distinctive line of people and machines is fading up. for example, we always follow the
schedule of flights made by computers; some of us have to starve when the oven refuses to function; the streamlines almost
drive the workers crazy without a thank you; and best of all, we are living under the threaten of weapons, especially nuclear
weapons. you may declare that these machines are still in the control of man, but they are not in the control of all mankind
this is where the rub is. if we can not command our machines, and even have to
either endure them or obey them, they are
certainly no tools at all. in that case, whether human kind is superior to machines is questionable.
after all these discussion, we can not conclude that human kind will always be superior to machines in a boarder view. but from personal aspect, I would rather hope this can always hold true. if we can really code with our machines, and do not abuse our creativity in virus or something, we deserve to be the forever master of machines. |
