As society advocates, students should keep a skeptical mind during their learning process. However, it is unreasonable for students to question everything taught. Actually, both questioning and accepting are the elementary learning methods during all periods of study.
As we all know, skepticism is essential to a student in his learning process. Specifically speaking, skepticism is a spirit of questioning and suspecting about the issue instead of accepting it passively. Such spirit will lead students to further analyze the questions, then, explore the answers through experiments and theories, and finally form his independent judgment on the issue. Thus, students with skepticism have a deeper understanding about the knowledge and are more likely to make innovations. For instance, to a boy who was just taught the structure of cell, skepticism would motivate him to observe the cell under microscope by himself. Also Throughout the history, most significant achievements and discoveries are attributable to the skepticism. Magellan, who challenged the concept that the earth was square, successfully sailed around the world for the first time of history and uncovered the fact that the earth is a globe. These examples prove that skepticism encourages deeper exploration into the current knowledge and promotes a more exact understanding towards the issue. For the benefits above, students should keep certain skepticism in their study.
However, to be skeptical about whatever they study is also unadvisable. If he suspects about all the knowledge he received, it is impossible for a student to accumulate knowledge step by step. For instance, if a student
doubts
the law of gravitation in junior high school and fails to accept it, how can he understand the reason
why
satellite goes around the earth? Also, if someone does not accept the current theory on satellite, he will not be expected to further study the universe. Therefore, though we acknowledge the benefits of skepticism, for a student to learn knowledge, it is infeasible to question whatever they study.
In fact, accepting the existing knowledge is also an important part of learning. The knowledge taught to us is not selected randomly. They are the theories proposed by significant scientists and tested by practice and experiments such as wave particle duality of light. They are traditions, cultures and values deposited through history and appreciated by the society such as justice and freedom. They are the basic rules and definitions about the world that we recognize as conmen sense such as languages and axioms.. Therefore, for a student, especially junior to college students, it is necessary to accept the knowledge given as a fund so as to learn more about the unknown world.
To sum up, students need to question what they are taught to further explore the knowledge. Meantime, they also need to accept the given information to attain the accumulation of expertise. It
is
not controversial. Just like a boy asks his teacher why plane could fly and the teacher explains the effect of aerodynamics to him. Now, to a little boy, he had better to accept the answer. That is to say, It is advisory for students to combine questioning with accepting in learning knowledge. |
