第二次练习TPO的作文了,还有一个多月就要考试了~ 每次独立写作文都很词穷,每次字数都只有300出头(经验帖说要高分的话还是字数多一些比较好),而且时间特别紧张,好心塞~~

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

To improve the quality of education, universities should spend money on salaries university professors.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

There’s no doubt that education takes significant place in the development of society. Some people proposed that in order to improve the quality of education, universities should increase professors’ salaries. I would like to argue there’s no need to do that concerning below three reasons.

First, high salary doesn’t have so much influence on the quality of education. In other word, professors who don’t have that high salaries are still willing to devote themselves to teaching their student. For example, for most Chinese professors, their salaries are based on their rankings. The higher rankings means high pay. However, even with the highest ranking in university, the professor’s salary is less decent compared with doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs, etc. In this case, our professors insist working on their career, like imparting knowledge in classes and helping students to solve all kinds of problems.

Second, many professors care more about other factors.  That is to say, many professors care more about other things like the sense of belonging, room for career advancement and sense of fulfillment. To be concrete, if one professor gets negative feedback from students, which greatly frustrates his/her enthusiasm to teaching, thus harmful to the quality of education. Under this circumstance, improving the professor’s confidence is definitely effective way than increasing salary.

Last but not least, there are other means which are more effective to improve the quality of education. The quality of education not only involves scores the students get from exams or knowledge from class, but also good health in physical and mental.  Namely, universities should fund sports and social activities and the fact is that the places provided for sports and social activities are in need of money. Playing sports makes students more energetic and confidence to face the future challenges.  What’s more, many sports and activities are played in group, which can greatly promote students’ team spirit.  Thus, sports and social activities strength one’s body as well as enhance the spirit of teamwork.

To summarize, I have to admit that to some degrees, higher salaries do promote professor’s devotion to education, but given the reasons stated above, I feel that increasing salaries for professors is not that necessary.

The reading's conclusion is that edmontosaurs migrate to south to survive during harsh winter, but the lecturer rebut this hypothesis and proves with new evidences.

Firstly, the reading demonstrate that edmontosaurs migrate to south to find food as there is no plants growing in the North. On the contrary, the lecturer challenges this idea by saying that even though the extremely weather condition makes it hard for plant  available, there are a lot of plants growing in summer time with suitable temperature and large amount of sunshine. The edmontosaurs have no need to migrate as they could rely on the nutrition from dead plant in winter. This is the first obvious divergence where the lecturer disagree with the reading.

Secondly, the writer indicates that edmontosaurs living in herd support migration hypothesis. Nevertheless, the lecturer disagrees with the connection. The lecturer believe that living in herd is one of ways to protect species from predator, and provide a kind of animal from North American, which also living in herb but never have migration.  This is the second explicit point where the lecturer's view is apart from the reading.

Thirdly, the reading passage then states that edmontosaurs have the capability of migrating long distances which makes the migration possible. As for this point, the truth is, adult edmontosaurs do have the ability to travel long, but juvenile edmontosaurs don't. It's not sensible that the adult migrate alone and just leave the juvenile behind. This is the third point the lecturer uses to clarify that migration hypothesis is not convincing.
