In this argument, the arguer claim that any who snores should try to eat less than average person and to exercise. In order to support this conclusion, the speaker cites a collected data from a recent survey to indicate that frequently waking caused by apnea leads people who snore feel tired and have a intendancy of unwilling to exercise and fatness. However, this argument is logically flawed in several respects.
To begin with, the arguer provides no clear evidence to justify the recent study suggesting a correlation between snoring and weight are statistically reliable. Perhaps the study's subjects were unrepresentive because of neglecting of human race and sexual distinction or age etc. Lacking such evidence the speaker simply cannot convince me to acquire any conclusion based on the unfounded study.
Even assuming a strong correlation between snoring and weight gain among the general population, the speaker has not adequately shown that sleep apnea cause weight gain. A correlation is one of indication of a causal relationship, but in itself does not suffice to prove such a relationship. It is equally possible that some certain illness containing both snoring and fatness. Moreover, some bad habits or traits may also cause these two symptoms. Thus, the arguer can not justify his claim based on a fallacy of abusing causation.
Another problem with this argument is the arguer unfairly assuming "anyone who snores" should follow the advice of eating less and exercising more than the average person. The cause of gain weight and tired, due to the speaker's claim, is Apnea. However, it is possible than many --or maybe even most---snores do not suffer the apnea. If it is the case, the most snores would not feel tired to exercise, or should not eating less. Without ruling out these and other possibilities, the advise should be limited to those who maybe not suffering apnea snores.
In conclusion, then recommendation reached in this argument is invalid and misleading to most snores. To make this argument more convincing, the arguer must provide the statistical data to show how many snores is suffering apnea. To better access this recommendation, I need to know the clinical data about the relationship between snore and sleep apnea.
这是我考时抽到的题目啊^感慨万千
lz应该更注意思路,我觉得这一篇的思路比较混乱.correlation & cause weight gain, ain't that mumble jumble? A correlation is one of indication of a causal relationship, but in itself does not suffice to prove such a relationship. 这个比较难懂. 其实这篇有比较多的攻击点,我记得我是写了三四个,lz没必要这样揪着一点不放嘛.Make it clearer in sketch firstly and things would be much better.
