TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

In general, I agree with the assertion that the college and university should require their faculty to spend time working outside to improve the quality of instruction. this will not only benifit the facualty themselves, but also the school and the students. but the statement fails to consider that not all acdamic area faculty need to connected with outsaide world. because some certain academic areas have no profession to speak of in outside acdemia, and some other academicarea itself invovle practical work of the sort that occurs ouside academia.

keeping connected with the outside academic world is absolutly good for the faculty themselves. by pending time working outside the acadamic world, they will broaden their view, and find what is useful to reality sociaty, and this will in return bring them higher interests to their research. therefor, if their researches are all based on the sciety's real requirement, the research results will match the market batter, and benifit the society. such as the IT, and especally the electronic area. as all these area have the same research goal which is to satisfy their customs, understanding the market and knowing what their customs really want is obviously important. so professors in these areas should positivelyu connected with the outside world. moreover, this connection will not only financially and reputably benefit the faculties who have been succeeded in meeting the real world's requirement, but also bring them fresh ideas and passion to their courses. these teachers' courses will be full of practical examples and be more
useful, therefor help the students learn better and boost the professor more credibility.

requiring the faculty to spend time working outside will also bring benefits back to the school and their students. if the teacher have experiences of practical useness, and fresh ideas connected tightly to the reality, their students will learn the theories and knowledges
better and more quicklly. and the real use of the knowledge will also intract some students to directed areas and get ready for their future work. such as my subject area psychology, which has a wide practical area and nearly every domain need to connected with reality. obviously, the clinical psychology researcher with real clinical cases will give the students more directed discription about pathology and clinical cases than that only have some theories in mind. moreover, a good research will attract social fundamental support, which will not only help the researchors finish his study, but also raise the reputation of their school.

college and universities should require their faculty to working outside, but this requirement depend on specific academic areas and some acdamic areas do not need to do so. for some pure theorical
field, there is no profesion in the outside world. this is really happend to the humanities, such as philosephy and mathematics. there is also some area itself involve practical works. some art areas can practise in their own academia, which means they do not need to working outside the academic word. for these kind of subject, the college and universties do not need to require them to connected outside world , on the contrary, the school should let them develop in the academia and prevent them from troubles of the outside world.

after all, in my opinion, aside from certain academic area in which outside work is inapproprate, i fundamentally agree with the statment that it is beneficial of the college and universities to require their faculties to working outside academic world to complement academic duties with real-word experience.
