The speaker asserts that a global university should be designed by all nations to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems, which seems to be somewhat appealing at the first glance, but further reflection tells me that I cannot agree with it after a careful scrutiny.

The chief reason why I am against establishing such a university is the culture differences rooted in people’s minds, which may lead to varied values of the world,causing conflicts between nations. Consider, a subtle disagreement in beliefs can trigger large clashes,even riots on campus. It may become a potential unsafe factors endengering the students’ lives.

Another reason to support the statement involves the priority of the most persistent social problem. After all, the world is divided into two parts: the developed countries and the developing ones. Most European Countries strress on sustainable industrilization while in Africa, the most task is to provide enough food for the people. So what will the university focus on? There should be a sequence, and in determining which problem has the priority becomes a problem itself.

Moreover, the statement is far less convincing with reference to an apt illustration of this point involves the duty of students. As is known to all, the main task of university students is studying, enriching their experience and storing the utmost knowledges as they can. It is like building the basement of a towers. Without the process of increasing input, how could they get the output? This is especially true when it comes to solving social problems. Undeniably, their lack of participation in political life and ignorance of the severity in reality will hamper them from doing so.

Last but not the least, if we fail to figure out the big-country-dominant phenomenon as in the case of dealing with international affairs, disastrous affect might appear including the possible huge cost of relatively small countries. They support the development of a global university with money,resources,teachers and so on, only to benefit other countries, because their words do weigh less.

Nevertheless, there’s something positive in the speaker’s assertion. Global university has a significant function of connecting several countries, letting them sit down and discuss social problems of the human as a whole. It is favorable for some common problems confronting all the nations, for example, global warming, sustainable development, and environmental problems.Letting the youngesters be aware of the severity of such problems and the possible ways to solve them, we can look forward to a better world to some extent.

In a word, even though there is some element of truth in this idea, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. The benefit doesn’t meet the cost, so it is not a wise idea for all nations to help support the development of a global university.
