Tradition or modernization? It's a problem especially for the people with a culture deriving from thousands of years ago. However, with differences and even contradiction exist between these two factors influencing on the choice of the contemporaries, there's solution for the superficial dilemma.

It's true that the conception and values of the past and present are different, and the space for traditional architecture sometimes is needed by modern construction, thus the society has to make choice in order to further development. After all, things are changing, technology is developing; otherwise the improvement of society would be stagnated since no difference happen. For example, the traditional methods to keep worm in house such as burning woods is not only out of date, but also improper for the present world for the large population thanks to the improvement in health care would result in a waste of source and even environment pollution if everyone consists to the traditional way. So, choice has to be made by society on analyzing for the inevitable conflicts between the two factors in some fields.

However, it seems that the difference between tradition and modernization prevent the people from sustain tradition in order to develop, there is common place for these two actually. The derivation of the present, after all, is the past. Even though switches have taken place, the development of the society is continuous especially in the fields of ideas and ethics. Modernization does not mean changing thoroughly and in all dimension, but developing on the base of the past. For instance, the architecture of the past in our university occupy the space for new buildings, while the students and the staff find old one not so comfortable to work or live in despite that its style is unique and stands for the historical ideas of the university. There's no need for the board to replace the building with a new one, as well as persuade the students to tolerate the terrible circumstance. Just renew the implement inside the house without damaging the structure of the building would help. Thus before concluding, one might find the contradiction at the superficial level could be eliminated by pondering.

In addition, it's necessarily through tradition that could the society find its identity, while modernization could help sustain tradition in turn. After all, it's the tradition that identifies the citizens, and no evidence would warrant that the ideas of the past could not provide guidance for the contemporary life. Even the past and present differs in thought, the ideas of the past might be appropriate in certain cases of the contemporary society. For example, the relationship within family members in China still remain the traditional one, and it ensure that people could get more care from the society whenever one get trouble, despite that this too close relationship contradicts with individual independence.

In turn, modernization is essential for sustaining the tradition, for necessarily through modernization could the society keep up with the outside world, thus ensure the confidence in its own culture. Considering the fact that the conflict between tradition and modernization is more serious in China than the west society, due to that this conflict between tradition and the modernization is not only the one between the past and present, but also east and west, it’s sure that without modernization traditional culture would be cast in competing with others. Thus, it’s important to develop in case that the traditional culture be placed by others’.

In conclusion, even though choice has to be made when tradition and modernization conflicts, the contradiction could be solved ultimately thus they are compatible on earth.
