issue160 "The most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Any leader who is quickly and easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion will accomplish little."

The speaker claims that a most successful leader should be adamant that he must insist on his principles and objectives and never oscillating between his own idea and others’ easily. However, I have to agree with his argument partly after scrutiny several times. An effective leader should keep a balance between self-assurance and open-minded in order to avoid becoming conceited or indecisive.

Admittedly, sometimes the leader should be intent on the goal which can bring the success to his team especially when team members are at bifurcation and nobody can convince each other. A capable leader will uniform his members to pursue the same intention after mulling over the various possibilities of the result. He is the captain of the ship and everybody needs him to point out the right direction when the ship is struggling in the hurricane.

However, if the leader is too overconfidence and never modify his principles even it is proved to be wrong, his idea may also become a calamity to his team. There is nearly nobody can always be successful and there is no principle existed will always bring home the bacon. An adept leader will amend his direction frequently so that he can prevent further loss. That is one of reasons why Napoleon will be exposed to the frustration in Waterloo.

It is same to the opposition. A leader is too irresolute that he will not only miss the opportunities to be successful but also lose his members’ trusts. Buridan’s ass is a famous example. The ass starved to death because it hesitated to make a decision on which side of hay to be eaten. Actually some leader are making the same mistakes as stupid as the ass in the reality.

To sum up, a successful leader should care about both abilities of constancy and open-minded. To find a best road leading to the success the effective leader should listen to others’ suggestion and accept the right ones. Once make up his mind, he should remain consistently committed to his road. That is truly the key points of success.

用词也注意了变换，
