TOPIC: ARGUMENT186 - The following is a recommendation from the director of personnel to the president of Professional Printing Company.
"In a recent telephone survey of automobile factory workers, older employees were less likely to report that having a supervisor present increases their productivity. Among workers aged 18 to 29, 27 percent said that they are more productive in the presence of their immediate supervisor, compared to 12 percent for those aged 30 or over, and only 8 percent for those aged 50 or over. Clearly, if our printing company hires mainly older employees, we will increase productivity and save money because of the reduced need for supervisors."

The argument recommends that the Professional Printing Company should hire mainly older employees to increase productivity and save money, the reason for that is a telephone survey, which is main survey the automobile factory workers, indicate that most older employees do not need supervisor to work well. However, I find this argument is logically flawed in several critical aspects.
To begin with, the author unfairly assumes that the survey is convinced. As we know a warrantable survey need professional people to do all the work, so, we do not know whether the survey real indicate the reality. It is possible that people don't tell the truth, or the data is wrong in the process to get this conclusion. Even the survey is carries out by the professional experts, yet, without the information about the workers, we do not know what kinds of work are doing. As we know, different job need different people and different people in the same job may have different represent. In some post, which is so tension that they have no time to shirking, need not supervise. While in other position, the workers may need to be supervised to keep the productivity.
Last but not the least, the arguer fails to assumes that the conclusion of the survey can directly use in the printing company. As we know, most of the jobs in the automobile factory are entirely different with that in the printing factory.
Even if the survey is convinced, and the experience in automobile can use in the printing factory, without the information about the workers in the Professional Printing Company, it is entirely possible that everyone in the company are working hard and their productivity can not enhance anymore, and they do not need supervisors in the workplace. Moreover, as we know, some position the younger one can do well, without the information about the jobs in the company, it is possible that mainly employ the older workers may reduce the productivity.
In sum, the author conclude the printing company should employ mainly elder workers depend on the unconvinced survey is presumptuous. To strengthen the argument, the author should give more information about the automobile factory and the printing company. And I need more information about detail analyze of why the conclusion of survey can adopt in the printing company.
