People will feel happier when they finish a challenging or difficult work than they finish an easy work.
What kind of work that can make people feel happier when they finish it, a challenging work or an easy one? People may give various answers based on their different education backgrounds, personal experience and emotional feelings. Some may argue that they feel more satisfied when complete a hard work, while others say that an easy work makes them more comfortable. From my perspective, I fundamentally agree the former group, believing that a hard work brings more happiness to me. My conclusion based on the following reasons.
To begin with, I concede that an easy work sometimes make people feel happy. After all, it takes less energy and labor to complete an easy work so that people don't need to worry about a lot of things during the process, such as how to solve the unexpected problem, how to combine different aspects of the whole assignment, whether do the work alone or through cooperation. For example, if you help your little sister with her homework from elementary school, it's undoubtedly easy for you because you are a college student. Let's take a math problem as an example. You help her understand a addition equation, then you can see how happy your sister is. You can also get more satisfied with yourself because your help works. The other thing I'd like to mention is that an easy work is more likely to succeed. People get more success when they keep working on easy assignment. More success means more self-satisfaction.
However compelling these cases may sound, an easy work may give rise to a number of questions. If you always focus on easy assignment, there might no challenge in your life, which means you might not have any progress because challenges breed progress. In this sense, you cannot gain happier in the long term. Therefore, too much emphasis on easy works is actually partial and incomplete consideration.
On the other hand, a challenging work has more advantages. For one thing, finishing a hard work means you are able to solve complex problem, which need more capability and creativity. I decide to participate Toefl exam, then I must work hard to improve my reading skill, listening skill, speaking skill and writing skill. This is not an easy process. I must keep practice everyday. If I get a good score in the end, I might feel very happy because all my efforts value. For another thing, hard work provides your more opportunity to face the challenges in the future. If I succeed in this toefl exam, I realize that such study system is suitable for me very much. Then in the future if I want to take another complex exam or pick up French, for example, to learn, I will utilize this study pattern and system because such experience can guarantee a high efficiency of my work.
In the final analysis, it is true that both easy work and hard work can make people happy when they finish it. However, considering the potential disadvantages of an easy work and great benefits of a hard work, I believe it is sensible to conclude that finishing a hard work makes people happier in life. |
