Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades (marks) encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
考试分数鼓励学生学习吗?
With the development of the education, the grades have taken onto an unprecedented position when judging a student’s ability. Some experts approve of it because they hold an opinion that the grades can quantify the faculty of a student, which can encourage the top students and other students to be batter. I disagree with it for several reasons. Firstly, the grades make give the top students more pressure which is harmful to their psychological health. Secondly, the grades can also hurt the feeling of other students because the long time away from the top area can tear down their egos.
The top students may be in great pressure if the grades haunt them all the time. A famous psychologist Richard Wiseman has said: the top one is under the most pressure. As a research made by a group of psychologists expose, 89 percent of the students of Harvard University have more than once feeling depressed during that semidry and 54 percent of them often feel blue. That may be so many top people who are under greatly admiring chose suicide. So there is no doubt that the outstanding students is under more pressure than the common ones. Highlight the grades will give them more pressure. No matter how excellent a person is, what he can undertake is limited. So stop to overstate the function of grades and give top students more relax.
The grades also hurt the feeling of the students that not that promising. As a research made by the Criminal Mind Research Institution, 78 percent of the criminals are not good at school and drop school because the low grades. There are no two leaves are alike, so do human. Some of them may good at study, and some of them may not. And the grades are not the only standard to judge a student. And if the students that not good at study can have a more harmonious atmosphere, they may expand their ability in other areas. The former president of the United States George Bush was not good at study when he was young, but no one can say he is not a excellent politician.
The grades sometimes can encourage the student. It can be promoter for them and give them a more explicit goal. But as a sword has two blades, the grades can also made many positive effects as I write.
In a word, the grades have more negative effects than the positive ones. So it is time to stop using the grades as a so called way to encourage the students. Without the grades the students can develop to a sane man, both on academic and psychological field.
