The above editorial recommends that a lager and more energy-efficient building should be built to replace the Rockingham’s century-old town hall as some citizens have proposed. This recommendation is based on the precondition that the new building will be larger to provide enough space to accommodate people working in the hall. Meanwhile, it would be more energy-efficient. In addition, renting out some of the redundant space in the new building would bring external income. At first glance, the reasons that provided by the author are very reasonable. A careful examination of them, however, will conceal how ridiculous it really is.
The original intension ??(紧张?应该是intent吧)of this recommendation is to save a considerable amount of money. While on the contrary, tearing down the century-old building and build building another new hall will cost a large amount of money. It is very clear that the author did not consider the cost for tearing down and constructing. Maybe the cost itself is many times larger than the considerable amount of money. In addition, whether the town of Rockingham could afford this cost is unknown.
Furthermore, the author did not give any supported evidence to show that the old town hall is too small to provide enough working space to people working for the town. There is no data to prove that their working space is not enough. Maybe this situation is just temporary, such as some superior officials are paying a visit to Rockingham or making an inspection. And the situation will turn normal when the officials leave here.
我觉得这个错误找的不好,就好象说"没有有力的证据证明这个建筑需要暖气和空调,因为该地区可能在热带"一样.有点为了错误找错误,呵呵
Besides, even assuming that the new building could be more energy efficient and cost less per square foot to heat and cool, it is uncertain that the total cost could cut down as the area would be increase at the same time. For example, the cost for heat and cool per square foot decreases by 25 percent, while on the contrary the whole area increases twice. In that case, the total cost would be 1.5 times as large as the previous one.
这个例子比较好,据说美国人特认这种带数字的例子,一看就觉得特有道理,呵呵
At last, the editorial assumes that renting out the external space in the new building will increase income for the town. However, after accommodating all the people who are working for the town, will there be external space for rent? Another problem is, as the hall is for government use only, it may be not convenient inconvenient to share with other companies or individuals.
In sum, the editorial is not well reasoning and lack careful deliberation. Therefore, without accounting for the above and other possible factors, the government of Rockingham should not make any decision in haste. It would be essential for the government to weigh the advantages of keeping the century-old hall against constructing a new building carefully.
好几天没写了,写作感觉还是蛮不错的,尤其是开头和结尾概括性的段落仍然值得我们好好研究,努力~
