TOPIC: ISSUE185 - "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

观点，同意作者观点，丑闻可以是有用的，出于人们对名人的好奇心，丑闻吸引观众的效果有时候比改革者和演说家还好，但是也有其负面作用。

1丑闻是名人犯下不可见人的事情，政治中例如受贿，性交易，学术丑闻中例如文章造假，体育中例如服用兴奋剂等等事情，而被公众媒体发现，并给予极大的关注。在这场战争中，当事人承受极大压力，所有事情曝光于公众媒体之下，甚至可能过去私人生活，他们往往最终身败名裂。媒体极大帮助观众满足了好奇心，赢得了利润。而社会体系会从这吸取教训，改革漏洞，加强监管，提高惩罚措施。而公众其实没有得到太多好处，被媒体满足了好奇心，畅所欲言发表了自己意见，最多说生活在一个更健全的社会体制下。

2丑闻的作用体现在，在名人没有犯下罪行之前，通过过去丑闻事情告诉他们有严重的后果，这种方式deterrent了名人，让他们不要冒险，而应当成为社会公众的良好榜样。而在他们犯下罪行，丑闻被报道之后，丑闻的作用则是惩罚了这些名人，同时极大引起社会观众，同时监管体制弥补漏洞，
3而丑闻也有坏处，例如因为百姓的好奇心，过多关注了名人私生活，干扰了很多无辜的人；丑闻可能被利用为一种政治斗争工具，例如制造假丑闻诽谤（slander，defame）竞争对手。我们应当避免这样情况。更有人说丑闻揭露的过程真相，教会了人们如何避免他们行径被发现，有时候甚至引诱别人去犯罪。

It is interesting that scandals can be useful sometimes as the authors mentioned. Because of the curiosity, which is the essential character and qualities of human nature, people eagerly pay attention to scandals of the celebrities. They show amazement to their immaculate hero for how could them make such a wrongdoing, curiosity to how they hide these thing to long and how the event are uncovered, blame to these tricker for them befooling these childish adorers. As the author said, the impacts of scandals focus the public attention even are begrudged by the speaker or reformer.

Scandals are these events that embarrassing incidents happened to eminent celebrity revealed by the media to the public, such as defalcation and bribery in politics, forgery paper for fame in academia, taking incitant in sports and so on. The events are uncovered and propagandized by public media, and attract mass public attention. During this Champaign, who is the winner? The celebrities who commit mistakes would take great pressure and under flash bulb by media, even some innocent victims involving in their private affair would be exposured. At last the celebrities would lose all reputation. The media content the public’s curiosity and earn huge profits. The censorship would reexamine their censor process and amend the mechanism, for example strength checkup and increase punishment, to reduce the hole. Only the public with little benefits, their curiosity content by the media, or they speak out what they want to express. or even some comfort themselves that we are living in a more health system.

But I only found that the function of the scandals embody as, for these celebrities before they commit mistakes, deterrence to let them know the results and not to risk their bright future, but after the scandals they become examples. For a society, we could say maybe our system have been improved.

Have we notice that scandals could cause tragedy? Overemphasizing the scandals itself but omitting the contribution of the figure would mislead the public. We sometimes spend too much energy to the news and the media lead us by the nose. The nature of making profits of media often impel them to hastily label all news as scandals about great figures who have committed a little error, especially in the politics and entertainment. More badly, some celebrities are haunted by malicious gossips created by their adversaries to defame them. With the help of media, we hardly to distinguish which is right or wrong. Even some would say that the scandals tech them how to avoid uncovered by the public and the reputation got by the celebrities before they are revealed allure them to commit these errors.

No matter how interesting of these scandals, we must keep ourselves awake and learn how to analyze and realize the truth of the scandals. The world needs more truth of these events not big bomb created by the media.
