51. Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.

What type of educations can be defined as effective? From my point of view, a truly effective education will satisfy personal desires to a large extent as well as benefit society lastingly. Then, specialized education to individuals, as the issue mentioned, is qualified some many aspects, while is somewhat too idealistic to carry out nowadays.
First of all, to learn is below to like, and to like is below to enjoy. To illustrate this concept, taking Thomas Alva Edison for example will never be more appropriate. He made thousands of inventions and changed the whole world thoroughly through his light bulbs, while, as we all know, he dropped off form his elementary school, and then was taught by his mother in person. In this instance, the individually designed teaching form his mother not only influenced Edison’s life positively, but also contributed a magnificent progress for humanity and society, which explodes the productivity and finally resulted in the total update worldwide. Therefore, such model of education deserves popularization. In another word, all students and learners are supposed to study in this pattern.
However, individualized instruction suffers from two aspects. On the one hand, students lack sensible judgment and self-restraint, which is virtually common and universal especially regarding they are immature teenagers mostly. Thus, individualized education will be an excuse for evading study and indulging themselves in this case. Instead, what students need in such situation is regulation and rules, for which schools and teachers are responsible. I might as well take my roommate (we both major in chemistry) for example: he is a chemistry zealot but disgusts calculus for its complication and unintelligence, so for him, on course individualized study is not applicable and restraint is quite necessary. On the other hand, assuming that all students are capable of self-control and wise judgment, to instruct them in accordance with their needs and interest is too unrealistic to bring into effect. The Large amount of students, the demanding requirements for material and human resources and inevitably the high tuition fees, all these prevent the realization of the policy.
Since entirely popularization of individualized education is unavailable now, to carry through partly is preferable, which is what some schools and universities have already done. The optional curriculum, the additional majority and the individual research fund and scholarship, all the emergent novelties are the reactants of the reaction between individualized education and limited resources. In addition, as far as students concerned, they ought to develop their interest in the correct direction and cultivate their self-restraint at a particular level.
In sum, to teach students in accordance with their needs and interest is generally a worthwhile idea with a little resistance somehow. It certainly will take a long period before the realization of the excellent education policy on the basis that students are sensible enough, whereas people have never given up their attempt to actualize. Hence, I am convinced the day is coming.
