Nowadays, there are varieties of sports and social activities in colleges and universities. Students enjoy them quite much. But these extracurricular activities do not receive the same attention and funding support as classes and libraries do. This phenomenon gives rise to a concern about whether the colleges and universities should put finance in sports and social activities. After thinking about it in some several aspects, my answer is affirmative. The reasons that I'll give you will divide into two parts to discuss separately, "sports" and "social activities".
Firstly, I want to talk about sports. Apparently, students can get health, a nice figure and happiness after exercising, such as playing basketball, baseball, tennis and so on. Here is a saying goes:"If you have exercised for an hour every day, you would live your life happily and healthy". For example, one of my classmates in university had been very hard working, she had studied all day long. She always sat in the classroom and studied, and she seldom exercised every day. After about two years, she was recognized to have high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol level and high blood sugar, just because she is lack of exercising. So if the colleges and universities put money in sports, and buy some exercising equipments, these equipments would encourage students to stretch their body.
Secondly, if the colleges and universities can pay more attention and put the fund in the social activities, it would bring the students some capacities which are unable to get from the textbooks, such like the leadership, team work ability, interpersonal skills, and some experience. Speaking of experience, almost every job's requirement says that experience first. In a recent research, it shows that only 34% graduates have the experience in some social activities and do them well. So we can easily tell that social activities are very important to students. Moreover, colleges and universities should draw attention on them.
Based on the reasons above, I agree with the statement which says the extracurricular activities should receive the equal financial support. They can bring students health, happy and the capabilities and so on. It's favorable to students, so why not go ahead with it?
